I see a Kirk Gibson/Willis Reed scenario.

Landry Shamet Injured

If Landry Shamet comes back on, say, February 15th versus New Mexico State in the makeup game, he will be able to play in 8 games through St. Louis plus anything that happens in the dance.
If the Shockers make a nice run, he may still have 8-14 games he could play in this year along with the few he already played in at the start of the year. There's a lot of season left if he is able to get on the floor in the first half of February.

I have high expectations for Landry Shamet as a Shocker. However, I am not sure we aren't setting expectations too high as to what he can do for this year's team if he does return.
When Ron Baker came back from his injury for the Valley Tournament he had a redshirt year and 10 D-1 games under his belt including games against VCU, Iowa, Tulsa and Tennessee. Obviously, they made the right decision in Ron's case.
Landry OTOH has 3 D-1 games under his belt as a true freshman with no additional prep school experience. He put up 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 turnovers and 2 steals in 49 total minutes against Charleston Southern and Emporia State (games where Fred played a total of 3 minutes). Against Tulsa with a less than fully functioning Fred playing 30 minutes Landry had 4 points, 1 rebound, 0 assists, 1 turnover and 3 steals in 10 minutes of play. If Landry does come back let's hope we can get him back for a handful of games at the end of the regular season because quite frankly he has very little experience at this point and that would be very valuable for him.
Maybe Landry could be a difference maker if he comes back but that is a big burden to put on a kid with such little experience but it would be a great story if we did have a Ron Baker redux.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 25, 2016, 07:39 PM.

Landry is on the level of Fred VanVleet in terms of leadership/dedication/intelligence, he will take people's minutes if he's healthy.

Am I the only one concerned about the large screw implanted in a small bone??? Many a player over the years in this game of basketball have had that same type of implant never to totally recover getting themselves back to the type of athlete they once were.
Not that I don't think there's a good chance for him to still be a great athlete. Holding out hope!!!FINAL FOURS:

Family economics and draft prospects can always have an impact, of course -- but it isn't clear to me why, if Buddy Hield and Denzel Valentine and Perry Ellis ended up being four year players, anyone thinks Landry Shamet would not be. And, yes, I know that Shamet is blessed with Marshall for his coach and the others aren't. But it still seems quite a leap of faith.

Just reading an article about Tad Boyle at Colorado and recruiting and found this tidbit --
The Buffs have been in the top two or three for some high level players, and they always fall just short. Tyler Dorsey is a prime example, Landry Shamet is another"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".
A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

I had two screws on each side of the bone in my big toe to hold it all together.
The doctor got pissed at me because I was driving (it was my right foot), but after 6 months, it's a little difficult to get people to haul you around.
He got his revenge by telling me right before he put me under (to take the screws out of my big toe) that if they were bent, they were staying right there.
I woke up without the screws. I had to go through a lot of rehab (that's about the time I started riding a bike 6,000 miles a year), but other than the lack of an arch in my right foot (it also took a divot out of that bone), I am walking fine.
What Landry's been through is not as bad. He'll be as good as new if he listens to the trainers.

Better have some sugar and water too, or else your lemonade will suck!

I can think of reasons why he does come back and play this year. Maybe he doesn't want or need to attend 5 years of college. Maybe he wants to be part of something special this year. Post-season opportunities are never "sure thing", do you turn down an opportunity now (as a role player) in the hopes for "bigger opportunity" down the road (where maybe you are vital cog)?
