I'm shocked he hasn't played yet. I'm calling the coach's show tomorrow

    • Getting closer to decision time every day. I'm hoping Shamet comes back to play for a number of reasons, but maybe most of all to give Baker a breather, especially in what figure to be some of the lesser games upcoming (e.g., home against MoSt; at Loyola; in the first round of the conference tournament).

Ron leads the team at 31.2 mpg after 22 games of a season that started way early for him as he also worked his tail off ahead of time to qualify for the PanAm team, play practice games, and then be the best US college player in the PanAm tournament. And, yes -- I know that was a great experience and a while ago, but it was still extra work. So considering how hard he plays and the extra workload in Orlando (and since, during the time LeFred was less than 100% and Ron was trying to carry both the team and a heavier than usual batch of responsibilities, all while playing almost continuously), I could easily picture him running down a bit just exactly when it's most important not to do so. Having Landry available to soak up some minutes Baker would otherwise play couldn't hurt, and it would help him get acclimated to being back on the court when it counts.

      • During the pregame Kennedy said his foot was fine the real issue is his ankle was in the boot so long it's causing him the most issues.

Dave said you could tell his gait isn't right yet.

        Time will tell.

        • I was watching him shoot in the pregame before the Loyola game. No doubt there was some stiffness when he tried to move much. Walking in a straight line he looked ok, but moving any laterally or quickly you could see there was a hitch there. I hope he comes back and plays this season, but only time will tell.
          Go Shocks!

Well, the ankle issue can't possibly have come as a surprise to the medical gang, so you have to assume the doctors and trainers have been trying to do the best they could all along to help Landry minimize it. Presumably it's just something that can't be helped, and maybe -- hope hope hope -- it's something goes away fairly quickly once the player returns to normal activities.

              • Wondering how much the loss the other night might impact his decision. I can't imagine being so close to possibly returning and having to sit on the bench and watch as the game slips away...wishing you could do anything to help out.

                    • I purposely stayed away from the ISUR game thread and this might have already been discussed there; is the grind of the Pan Am games and playing extra minutes when Fred was on the shelf caused Ron to wear down? He seems to have lost his legs on his jump shot and is missing badly at times. Would playing Landry, allow Ron to scale back on minutes prior to the big dance? We know Marshall has confidence in Landry and wouldn't hesitate to put him back into action if healthy.

Assuming Landry is cleared to play soon, this is what WstateU would do. I'd meet with my 5 seniors (yep include Grady and BWam) and throw everthing out on the table... pros and cons of bringing Landry back. I have a feeling they would unanimously say, "bring him back". You're never guaranteed a tomorrow, so play for today.

P.S. It appears some of this was mentioned earlier in this thread by @WSUwatcher:; I should have read the thread before posting.

This is nearly 100% Landrys decision though. If he wants to play, he will play. If he wants to save the year, he will redshirt. The seniors and Marshall will give him advice, but it's his decision.

                        • Interesting situation for the young lad, if it is truly HIS decision....tough tugs each way, but my sense is he came here to be part of something special, and he may judge that to be right now...either way, I think he makes a good call...

                          • It seems as if RB could use some rest but not at the expense of having LS playing. I can't believe that with some of the "softer" valley teams that they can't find substantial minutes for RB to rest his legs over the rest of the season. If we have to push him to play against the likes of some of these teams we are in a sad state of affairs.

                            • All the talk about RB having no legs and needing to rest is puzzling; NBA season is 82 games, often with back to backs with travel. RB is old enough to be NBA ready now; how will he fare if he can't handle the college schedule? I don't buy it. Either that or he's got no hope of NBA play.

Agree with this. Reducing RB participation 5 minutes a game amounts to 35 minutes for the remaining regular-season schedule. That cannot really be much of a factor, can it? Give him one day off from practice would more than compensate (2 consecutive hours versus 35 minutes spread over three weeks)

"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
