The Big12's best point is that most of its teams are good. Good enough that the really bad teams don't beat them. The B12 plays the RPI game better than anyone, but the B10 is clearly the best basketball conference. With the ACC challenging next year.
But man, 70% of the conference makes the tournament, two make the Sweet 16, none make the Elite 8?Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

Doesn't the fact that KU has won the Big 12 10 years in a row show that the conference isn't that good? I just don't feel like a conference can be that good if one team, regardless of how good that team is, wins 10 straight years. I know there have been some co-champions in there but a decade and no one has knocked KU to 2nd place? That says a lot to me.

When was the last time WSU played them at the Dance? Well, it was more than 10 years ago and we call our win "The Battle Of New Orleans." Mike Jones seals their fate with 2-late game daggers from 20-25' away as we all in unison yell "Nooooo upon release and then---Yeeeesss" as they both swished.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Now that the Big 12's season is over, whether you think the Big 12 is overrated depends on what you base conference strength on. The SEC performed very well in the tournament but wasn't a good conference over all. The Big 12 performed poorly but was better top to bottom. Going into the tournament, the SEC had 3 top 20 teams according to kenpom while the Big 12 only had 2. The difference is that the SEC's next best team was Arkansas at 51. The Big 12 had 5 teams in that middle ground. That conference was pretty much built to get a lot of 6-10 seeds and lose early. Definitely overrated based off what the media thought but probably better than what they are made out to be on here.
Note: kenpom ratings change during the tournament. Kansas and Iowa State have fallen and all the SEC winners have risen to the point that all three SEC teams are now rated higher than KU.

OU, Texas, K-State were...ummm meh. I never bought into the hype on these programs. Baylor did about as well as expected, but ISU and KU are probably still in the Dance, or would have advanced much further, if Niang and Embid never got hurt. OK-State is an enigma. If big guy down low never got hurt and their key back-up didn't have legal issues, they would have been a tough out. But, injuries are part of the game so the Big 12 definitely underwhelmed - as did the ACC.

But depth without elite teams makes you the MWC last year, not the best conference in basketball.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'
