Auburn basketball is like most of the SEC, it's about the 4th or 5th most important sport on campus after football, spring football, football recruiting, baseball and probably some woman's sport.
Really enjoyed that article. Great find @RoyalShock:
Some great quotes and comments. Like this quote from Devon Smith:
"They all have their own stories," Smith said. "They have all been through different tragedies. ... Tekele Cotton, for any team in this conference, would probably average 16 points. For us, he has to be Ringo Starr. We have some great singers, but he's the best drummer in the world."
DJ gets to be with the staff for 4 years, then he could spend 2 years as a grad assistant. Six years of experience will give him one heck of a leg up.
Yes, but he will not have done any recruiting at that point. Perhaps if you have a Steve Forbes and Greg Heiar or equivalents on staff you could get by with a young, inexperienced guy as the 3rd assistant, otherwise you want guys that have massive rolodexes or I guess these days a full digital phone directory.
Anyone have an idea of jobs that will be opening up this year?
Possibly Virginia Tech, but there's some uncertainty as to whether it will be this year or next year. Coach JJ is just in over his head, but I still think they're paying off Seth Greenberg's contract and they're not exactly known as a basketball school anyway.
I mean this next question in a purely curious context and am not trying to sound harsh....
Why is everyone so hung up on the idea of DJ Bowles staying at WSU to coach/hang around the program? I don't remember reading anything where he explicitly said that's what he wanted to do. If he can find a school that will allow him to play, and him and his family decide that's a good decision for him why should he not take it? Also, as 1972Shocker alluded to, one does not simply make the transition from being a member of a team to a full time, recruiting, scouting, etc. assistant coach.
Amazing how structured and organized this coaching staff and supporting staff is. Not to be taken for granted in contributing to the teams success. Great job all.

That's a pretty cool breakdown of the staff and just goes to show how much the discipline of the coaching staff trickles down to the players. That all starts at the top. 3G, IMHO, is a genius.

Watching Bruce Pearl on Sports Center this morning, and I can't believe how much I like him! He seemed like such a sleaze ball as a coach, but I really like him now as a commentator.
I was hoping that when this week's Sports Illustrated arrived, I would see Tekele Cotton on the cover. Such a disappointment to see D. McDermott instead. So, to cheer me up, Shocker Kid defaced the photo -- gave Dougie a unibrow, moustache, and a tattoo that says (of course) "Dad." Makes a mom proud!
