Yeah, I imagine they do a lot of backchanneling with top assistants during the tournament. His agent/attorney/whoever will probably filter the teams reaching out and let the desirable ones know he is interested.

It worked out for Boyle, but it think it's easier to be successful when you go to a university that already has some clout. The Assman

That was a great article.
Granted, their entire history consists of Sir Charles, but it is a BCS job.
Knowing the BCS though, they will want a "proven" coach. Their fans probably think they could even land Marshall. The Assman

In fairness to the Auburn AD, fan / booster pressure can sometimes complicate what would otherwise be a chance to make a sensible choice.
On the other hand, whatever Auburn has tried befpore hasn't worked for any length of time, and their AD has a honeymoon period right now because of his jackpot hire of Gus Malzahn. So he ought to be able to say to anyone who would complain about hiring a great assistant coach, "Trust me."
Besides, didn't the Chickenhawks "gamble" once upon a time by hiring a mere assistant named Roy Williams? Talk about jackpot hires -- Auburn should be half as lucky. Their big problem is that basketball is way, way down the athletic priority list these days. They have plenty of money to upgrade basketball -- way more overall revenue than KU ever has, IF they choose to use it. But they don't have any fan interest.

Auburn basketball is like most of the SEC, it's about the 4th or 5th most important sport on campus after football, spring football, football recruiting, baseball and probably some woman's sport. There's so much potential there with the facilities, money, campus life, etc., and it amazes me how little effort is put into improving a potential gold mine for the athletics dept.

I could see him going to Auburn. I think this situation is why Steve Forbes was hired. Ideally tho, Jans would stay until DJ graduates. I saw that Matt is an assistant in Texas. Will he be ready for the big time next year?People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov
