There is a chance (a small one) they are trying to go low-key because of a masterful, borderline illegal, fundraising strategy destined to propel us to top-10 recruiting classes from here on out.

    *stops laughing*

One thing is for certain, flexing on message boards regarding a subject matter that is still VERY grey, is not grown-up thinking.

After IB was fired there was meeting held in a remote location to try and bring back GM back. KS,TD,JJ,a couple of Koch's and various other money men were in attendance. It got pretty heated and everyone was sent home to cool off. The next day the decision was left up to pretty much one person who has the money to make all the financial issues surrounding the program go away. He said no! The other concern was by bringing GM back what message are you sending to the players were affected? Notice that no one has said one word of his demise or in his defense.

There is a vast chasm between amending a contract to let fHC3GM wear WSU gear in public, versus amending a contract to bring back fHC3GM as head coach. Nobody here claimed his contract would be amended to allow him to coach again.

No reason to think there is malfeasance or mismanagement but some transparency would help people understand where we are.
They are not, at least not if they are registered in KS/Wichita. I checked public records

Your post excites me. A very similar-sounding rendezvous happened when Alabama brought the briefcases. When the dust settled, we were paying our Hall-of-Fame coach top-10 money.

              1) Do you actually think we can buy our way out of this mess?

              2) Do you think they actually WILL buy our way out of this mess?

I understand what you are saying but his contract is pretty specific. How can he go out and drum up money for the program when he isn't allowed to talk about WSU?

If the president and athletic director thought it would benefit the school and fHC3GM were interested, they can simply amend the agreement to let him. But this is all moot ... fHC3GM isn't going to fund raise for WSU.

This article will give you an idea on the typical NIL deal in the NCAA. Most of the big hitters have MAJOR social media presences and are football stars. The typical football player at OU or Alabama makes $50-60K.

                        But it's $150K starting at Bug'aha State.

P.S. MOST schools can't just drop a couple hunny in a player's account. The player has to have some level of national notoriety to command the big bucks (100's of thousands to millions).
Know for a fact this isn't true. $10k/mo minimum at UK (end of the bench scholarship players). I've seen the check stubs.

                        • At the time of the move to the AAC, I had a contact who attended budget meetings of the athletic department. The donors had provided enough $$ to pay Marshall and the attendance had produced a surplus in the athletic department. When they looked at the travel costs for playing in the AAC, the year to year finances were going to struggle to break even.

Since then, we're still paying a Marshall-level salary. It's just spread among 3 coaches now. We've alienated the major donors by firing Marshall - and also by hiring Golden. We've lost a lot of attendance due to covid, age, apathy, and on-court performance.

At the time of the move to the AAC, it was thought that they had gone about as far as they could go with the big $$ donors. Now we need even more $$ from outside the University to pay players. It's a very real possibility that money isn't there and will not become available. Couple that with an NIL collective that doesn't seem to stay in touch with its contributors.

Maybe AFTER all these fired coaches are paid off, WSU and the community can do something, but ...

...There's probably A LOT more NIL money available to KU and even KSU out of Wichita, than there is available NIL money for WSU.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

That's a hard pill to swallow. Is it a bold thing to say that a majority of $$ alum/supporters are generally more apathetic than those of our northern brothers?

                              We’re just poorer.

No, we just have a 'defeatist' Wichita attitude. Sure, they have the Big-12 and more wealthy alums to prop them up, but there's no reason we can't compete in the NIL space... especially, without football. Maybe ShockRef can chime in; he has a better handle on our NIL potential. There might even be some good news in the works.
