So any idea how we are commiting $25k to all student athletes, with a 500k pot? Math doesn't work.
443 sounds high for a school without football.

Looked it up, about 270 student athletes in track and field alone. I had no idea that many kids were on the track and field teams.

I have no expectations of any players we’ll get (or lose). However I do find it interesting no other (additional) current players are in the portal.

Good point, although I believe that this year the cutoff date is May 11th (60 days after the end of Conference Tournaments), so nothing set in stone at this point.

I don't believe that is anywhere close to accurate. The current Shocker Track and Field Roster lists 54 women and 45 men. The get 18 scholarships for the women and 12.6 for the men (and those include Cross Country) to divvy up. I doubt any of these athletes are on full scholarship and many receive no athletic scholarships and are essentially walk-ons.

I think those are pretty much average rosters sizes under Coach Rainbolt.

Yeah, the GoShockers roster has 99 athletes in track and field. That website also claims that there are 35 student athletes for men's basketball . . .

With Barbell, Club Baseball, Bass Fishing, Cricket, Disc Golf, Gaming (ESports), Ice Hockey, Shooting, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Table Tennis, Club Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, Men's Volleyball, Club Women's Volleyball, Water Ski & Wakeboard, Wrestling, Club Men's Basketball, Taekwondo.

Those are listed on the WSU site, but for some reason doesn't include Crew (Rowing) which I'm certain also exists.

Your are double counting the XC athletes as they are also included on the Track & Field Roster and XC and T&F scholarship limits are combined. 18 for the women and 12.6 for the men. Only 35 players on the baseball team are officially on the roster (NCAA Limit) and at least 8 of those are walk-ons.

I understand your thoughts, but I think it's a good thing to have money available for all student athletes. Between school and practice, they have little time to work a job, plus that employer would have to be very flexible to accommodate their school and varying sports schedules.
In short it gives the non revenue generating sports a chance to compete at a high level and allows those who can, to make even more. Plus the individual nil deals may be tax deductible by their employer where as armchair donations won't be.

With the current 25k plan I don't believe MBB will be able to attract top transfers. We've set a ceiling. I'll be shocked if we land Abmas. I admittedly don't have much interest outside MBB.

500k at 25k is about 20 players. My assumption would be that it would only go to scholarship basketball players, men's and women's. But I think they said all student athletes. Could be they are talking about scholarship athletes only, but that would still be a major shortfall of cash. Since most of the baseball team only gets 1/2 scholarship, how would that work?
They have to have some projections of cash rolling in either way.

And either way they're talking a base. There are obviously many more ways to make money through other NIL deals. Syd McKinney has had numerous deals though a couple of collectives and businesses local and otherwise. Those types of offers are going to be available for anyone willing.

I agree with that, except that a 4* or 5* guy would be marketable enough to get a big money booster to make a $100k deal or more for the use of a kids image
