  • Odd. The only 2 WSU Coaches I've seen booed in my life are Brown & Turg. But let's bring Turg back?

Hey, I got an idea; let's go poach Jerod Hasse from Stanford! Hahahaha...

UCF has the tie breaker with WSU and their schedule gives them a good chance to win 4 of their final 5 games which would give them 10 wins and tie them with WSU if WSU wins 3 of 4. WSU needs to hope that Cincy wins at UCF today.
      Cincy beat UCF

      • The game with Memphis is the most important game in Coach Brown’s head coaching career. I think he returns next year with a win. What will happen?

        • There has been a lot of talk about wins and losses and threshold of the record.

It's about a lot more than wins and losses folks, and I promise you the decision will be based on all the responsibilities of the HC, not just wins and losses.

            Yes

Bingo! Butts in seats, donors giving a ****, advertisers willing to pay. W/L record is nearly irrelevant.

So are we saying people won’t come back no matter how many wins IB gets? If he is retained and gets off to a 8-0 start, people still won’t show up?

I get the hypothetical. Just trying to figure out if people are against IB or just want to see a winning team. Doc said it's about more than wins and losses. I'm not totally convinced that IB can't be a decent coach here.

Some will come back, but again, does IB inspire donors, regardless of record? Does he make people passionate about being associated with Shocker bball? Advertisers would like passionate fans. I will give IB another year if you guarantee an 8-0 start. If the 8-0 start does not materialize, I would expect you to pay for the buyout immediately. Do you have that kind of confidence in IB? That's what you are asking ADKS to have.

I know the 8-0 thing is tongue in cheek .. but if IB gets another year .. He's here no matter what until May 1 2024. Cutting him mid next year would be dumb since his buyout is cut in half on May 1.

And what makes that even worse, is that by May 1, your best options for a new HC are already signed elsewhere as the bulk of that activity is generally in March and April. So you wouldn't even be in the conversation for a number of coaches.

Yup .. its a horrible awkward date. Not only that, but by the time you get a new coach on board, most of the portal activity will be done. So you are almost writing off ANOTHER year at that point.

I've wondered about this. Maybe when/if it announced that he wouldn't return in such a scenario, it is stipulated that he is terminated effective May 1 (meaning he gets paid through May 1) and then the reduced buyout takes effect.

I don't know. Just spitballing here.

Yet again, thanks a bunch, Darron!

Interesting concept. Looks like the links to the open record portal are still down so I can't see the actual wording. I'm guessing that would need to be pre-agreed to by the lawyers.
