The KU, WSU, KSU fan bases have a decent chunk of fans who know nothing about basketball besides how to look up the record of each 3 so they can decide which team they are "life long fans of' for today.

Why? Just because he's hired doesn't mean he is a fit. I don't think he is a fit at WSU. Now if he has Marshall type success, then maybe some crow is in order.

Also when Richey was originally being thrown around on here, Marshall was still the coach. The particular person was advocating firing Marshall for Richey. We had to fire him for other reasons and even then... If we would have done an actual search at that moment, Richey still wouldn't have been the top choice. If he ends up getting hired 2 years later, it's more to do with the drop in attractiveness of the WSU program (current state, change in conference membership, attendance drop etc), available candidates (Forbes and Jan's likely off the table) and the financial issues than it is to say he would have been the right hire a few years ago.
