How many blocks last game? 8 or close to it. He blocked more than a few.

      • He alters 3x the number he blocks. Plus changes the entire strategy for the other teams offense. If he can just do SOMETHING on offense... He's our starter.

Ok. He blocks shots. Not sure I ever disputed that fact...

He blocks lots of shots. The closest player we have to his rim protecting abilities is unfortunately, our Point guard.

He has shot blocking potential for sure. Take away the 5 he had Saturday and he had 5 total in the previous 6 games so let's not turn him in to Dikembe Mutombo just yet. Longwood's tallest player who played significant minutes was 6'7".

To be fair .. he may have "played" in 7 games .. but 4 of those games are 3 minutes, 4 minutes, 6 minutes and 6 minutes. In the 3 games he's played over 6 minutes? 9 blocks...

                    • SI has a list of 10 coaches at non-power conference jobs whose names you'll want to remember. I'd have to look into most of them more closely to have an opinion, but if we're looking outside of the Marshall tree....

                      Drew Valentine - Loyola-Chicago
                      Jeff Linder - Wyoming
                      Jordan Mincy - Jacksonville
                      Grant McCasland - North Texas
                      Shantay Legans - Portland
                      Niko Medved - Colorado State
                      Austin Claunch - Nicholls State
                      Kim English - George Mason
                      Bob Richey - Furman
                      Robert Jones - Norfolk State

There are little snippets on each in the article. Jeff Linder seems intriguing based on what he's pulled off at Wyoming. I'll have to do a deeper dive on him and the others though.

Screw it, here's another College Hoops Today - 20 coaches on the rise entering the 2022-23 season by Rothstein. Some of the same names as the SI list above.

                      Shantay Legans - Portland
                      Bob Richey - Furman
                      Robert Jones - Norfolk State
                      Richie Riley - South Alabama
                      Bashir Mason - St. Peter's
                      Austin Claunch - Nicholls
Joe Pasternack - UC Santa Barbara
                      Matt Langel - Colgate
Eric Henderson - South Dakota State
                      Stan Johnson - Loyola Marymount
                      Jared Grasso - Bryant
                      Terrence Johnson - Texas State
                      Grant McCasland - North Texas
                      Darian DeVries - Drake
                      Jordan Mincy - Jacksonville
                      Dana Ford - Missouri State
                      Jeff Boals - Ohio
                      Jonas Hayes - Georgia State
                      Danny Sprinkle - Montana State
                      Ritchie McKay - Liberty

Some of these coaches are probably bound to be more successful in other regions, but it's a list we can look at if we so choose. Most of them are under 40 and could offer a lot to a program like ours and potentially be here a long time if they have success and we take care of them.

Wonder the possibilities of poaching a coach from the same conference ...

If we do it soon enough, then technically...

                              • I like McCasland, but I think getting him to come here and face his old school a couple of times a year might be difficult.
