Fire the coaching staff

It makes me sick to my stomach to say. But if we can't have a much improved year this year over last (looking unlikely), then I hope we absolutely suck to the point that there is no option at the end of the year except to make a change.

Last thing I would want, at least at this moment, is to do JUST good enough to say, "Well, that wasn't great, but it showed potential so let's just give it one more year".

So for me it is either:

Finish top 4 with a shot at NIT

Finish bottom of the conference and make a change.

The problem is IB is the epitome of meh.

GM will never coach WSU again and I will even say that he will never coach D1 again. It is not because he can't but I think the NIL will discourage him from doing it. He prided himself it taking raw talent and turning it into a basketball machine...he could do it now and someone would come in and buy them out before he reaps the benefits of it. Who needs that?

Thinking back to fired coaches, where would you rank IB in the pecking order? Cohen, Thompson, Randy.

To me, Randy and Scott were clearly better than Mike and IB.

Mike Cohen was by far and away the worst. Couldn't recruit. No discipline. Problems seen and unseen off the court. Wasted talent he had. AWFUL. Not close, clear worst.

Randy was next. Too rigid to be able to recruit decent talent. Too screwed up to be able to run the program. Good basketball mind though.

Scott Thompson was a good dude. He could coach a little too. Couldn't recruit a bit. Hated to see him not win. Really good person.

IB. If you're fair about it, it's pretty remarkable the team he put together this year. Time will tell if he can make them any good as a group. And it's possible he could gain a more prominent role on this list.

Geez....the other 3 COULDN'T MAKE THE VALLEY TOURNEY. Isaac won the AAC (and yes, I'm totally aware of the things that went our way. Still...didn't make the Valley tournament).

Yup .. Some seem to think our program is only good because of Marshall and that's the only path back to success. Program was good before Marshall (though maybe not to the heights he took us) but it can be just as good going forward without crawling back to Marshall.

I always appreciate optimism. However, We’ve reached the Sweet 16 a grand total of 6 times in 62 years. What’s the possibility that many of us will be dead before it happens again? Two of those 6 times came with Gregg as our General. Twice in he 60’s, once in the 80’s, and once 2006. Sorry for Not feeling so optimistic.

So 66% of the trips came under a coach other than Marshall? Sounds like decent odds we can do it again. I'm not resigned to thinking that we are only Wichita State because of Gregg Marshall. He sure helped, that's for damn sure, but he's not our only path back to success.
