I bet Fred will start and play like 5 minutes... Enough to get things going. I bet he will technically play, but we won't see anything close to a normal load. I don't think he's "injured" or "out" but rather that he is healing, and just not 100% along with some risk of aggravation.
Fred in jogging/coast mode will still be the best PG on the floor.
I'd rather not see much of him in particular. He needs a little bit of playing time in our first few games just to get some reps in, but the people who really need all these minutes tomorrow will be the newer guys, I would think.

Finally got ahold of a copy of the SI mag with the FVV story. What an article. I'm happy I kept with it and tracked a copy down. If you haven't yet read it, you should! Living in Southern California it only took me two days, and going to two different Targets, a Walmart, a CVS, a Walgreens, a VONs, two different Barnes & Nobles (one twice), and finally a newstand 20 minutes from my house, to realize that print media is somewhat obscure nowadays and being outside of the Shocker Nation hub has made getting ahold of Shocker related SIs a frustrating afair. I think I would have traveled up to LA to pick up a copy if I had to though. Can't wait for another great season. Hopefully FVV goes off on a high note.

There's no reason for Fred to play tomorrow and it gives Gregg an opportunity to figure out his backup PG situation in a game scenario. I'm not all that interested in a blowout, more interested to how the new guys play and whether or not we can see whether or not Shaq can play more than 20 minutes without fouling out. If his knee is indeed one of the factors keeping him from moving his feet last year then hopefully that surgery will have him playing much better defense without all the lazy fouling.

Sports fans get lots of feel-good basketball action. Those not so enthusiastic about sports get to see a kid with, apparently, no hope for his future, overcome his situationand become an example to others in his situation.
The opening scene could be a drug deal where one participant gets shot dead. That would grab an audience. Then there's even a "chick flick" element as Fred's mom makes an excellent choice to bring Fred's step-father into her life and her son's lives.
Then there's the totally unexpected "Hoosiers" element, where an unknown player from a town of 3,000 people can't get a D1 school to look at him, and turns out to be an All American right beside Fred, who also turns out to be an All American.
Have to include a slightly fictionalized thing. Got to show the 23 points in 9 possessions against Gonzaga. Have Baker look Marshall in the eye during the timeout before the run and say, "I got this". There wouldn't be a dry eye in the house if that was presented right.78-65

That story probably needs told in an ESPN 30-for-30 someday.
The way I see it is the movie opens with HCGM (played by Robert Downey Jr) discussing whether or not he belongs at this level after finishing 9th in the MVC. Then he goes out and recruits a single class of players which includes Baker (Channing Tatum) and VanVleet (Jayden Smith)...back story on both guys has major scenes in the movie. He's recruiting Perry Ellis and Conner Frankamp, but ends up finding Evan Wessel (also played by Channing Tatum). Conner (Simon Pegg), later transfers to the program as the missing piece.
After going undefeated in the regular season, the Shockers lose to Kentucky (portrayed by the LA Clippers with Jack Nicholson as Coach Cal), and after your heart is ripped out by the inspirational story gone wrong, the NCAA announces that UK has been declared ineligible for paying players. The mighty Shockers march on to take on KU (Mark Strong plus bad rug as Bill Self) and pummel them for an NCAA Championship!
Peter Dinklage makes a cameo as Barry Hinson, but has a 20 minute post game monologue rant cut from the final screening.Livin the dream
