Seriously...I love FVV at #1, but even if you only compare head to head and same team players, there are a minimum of 5 guys ahead of Ron that played against/with that he outplayed badly. Hate that FoxSports would hurt their own credibility that way. Maybe Coach K got ahold of them like he did Mark Few and told them they couldn't have two guys from the same "mid-major" team both ranked too high.

Get this week's SI (w/ Royals cover) for my feature on Wichita State point guard Fred VanVleet:

        • What a wonderful story about Fred in SI. I had tears in my eyes, reading about how hard things were for him as a child. Then, I laughed when I read about the kangaroo court which adjudicates players' infractions of the unwritten code. Great read.

Guess that depends who you believe. You must've heard a different story than I did. Coach K is the head of USA basketball. He can make any decisions he wants to. Turdge was just a consultant. Hard to tell for sure I guess.

krycewski had nothing to do with that team. turgeon, though, not a pan am coach, was brought in to assist with player selection for that team.

can we get some assistance, turfin? some people here don't seem to understand like you would. could you please enlighten some good folks here that mark turgeon was brought in strictly to assist with player selection

I'm fully aware Turgeon was brought in as a "consultant". I'm also fully aware that he absolutely wanted Melo on the team. But if you think the man who runs Team USA basketball (Coach K) had nothing to do with selections, I think you are gravely underestimating his reach within the organization.

                        • Coach K gets a pass. Unlike Boeheim, Calipari, Self, and Pitino; Coach K hasn't had his ass handed to him or had to take punishment by WSU late into the 12th round yet. Some guys just can't believe it until they are against the ropes.

Nice pass, you now have one more assist than melo!

Seriously though, Coach K gets no pass. Low basketball IQ ball hog vs BBall Einstein Supreme Leader and Floor General VanVleet...no contest.

                            • I found it very interesting how Coach Marshall pulled no punches in his interview with Jim Rome yesterday when he was asked about FWinner being left off the PanAm team. He flat said they would have won the gold with Fred. They sorely needed a point guard who could distribute the ball.
