I probably watched less college basketball this year than years past. I know I am not alone.
If this is odd, I did watch the tournament a lot this year for some reason, but outside of us, my interest in college basketball during the regular season was almost nothing.

Transfer portal will definitely affect underclassman playing time, when the covid-babies have graduated and we are back to normal 5-to-play-4 though.
That's a fair counterpoint. Total roster spots are the same, but yes competition for them is much greater now as guys that were in school during COVID have 6 to play 4. Maybe a better way to say it is that is has pushed the recruiting cycle out for HS players. Whereas before schools and recruits had a pretty good idea on what spots would be available the following year early in the season...now that picture isn't very clear until late spring, even summer. Once the season ends, D1's are filtering through the portal, seeing what they can accomplish there and then going back to HS recruits to fill any openings that didn't get handled via portal or an existing player deciding to go/stay, use COVID year, etc.

So if you are a HS recruit with D1 aspirations...do you wait until late spring hoping to land a spot at D1 or do you jump on the D2 offer you got during senior season. Do you wait on a D2 spot or do you accept the roster spot from a D3.

Or do you jump to the prep schools that seem to be popping up all over the place$$$

Me too. I'm willing to wager our team's trajectory soured me on the sport in general and I may not be a good representation of the man at large.

            • Remember when the viewership of WSU in the tourney would spike. Everyone love/hated the storyline, it drew viewers. And it's gone for the foreseeable future........disgusted.

If there's anything that deserves an immediate, no warning ban, that would be the post.

                        • This is a former player, but Chance Moore is in the portal again. From WSU, then WSU (the other one), now from Jackson State. And still listed as a freshman on ESPN.

                            Clearly not figuring it out.

He's going to be one of those 300 that Geno talks about not finding a spot. Not sure many programs are looking for that 31% FG 1-2 A/TO ratio bench guys.

He'll be lucky if he gets picked up by a D-II school, unfortunately.
