I appreciate what IB has done so far. I also like him on a personal level. I still want them to look outside of the current staff for the next HC though.

I would certainly say he would deserve serious consideration if he went out and won the league or took them to an elite eight. ( Ovérachieving IMO). To play the other side at that point, wouldn't it suck if some other D1 program took a chance on him and he became very successful coach, due to this season. A little bit of a stretch at this point, so I am not completely disagreeing with you, just thinking that playing this out to see if he can maintain this is a good idea.

For the sake of continuity and stability in the BBall program, and to facilitate recruiting, Isaac Brown should be offered a multi-season contract NOW. This also takes into account the difficulty of suddenly taking over the program in this Covid-19 year; it wouldn't be fair to not give him more time to prove himself. Also, we should start looking to find space for Etienne's number over Koch Arena.

If the season goes off rails where we don't hire him, we are likely looking at a rebuild either way, so best to leave that option open. On top of that, the free transfer rules will likely create a market that a new coach can find some good fits right away, without traditional recruiting.

I want what's best for the program. There are MANY facets that make up a winning head coach. So far IB has proven he can successfully take over the helm after the captain got sniped off the bridge and fell out the window into the ocean never to be seen again. But make no mistake; most of these players, and the entire coaching staff is the product of Gregg Marshall culture. What is IB culture? What happens if he stops shaving after his bank account gets flush? What if he can't close the deal in a kid's living room? Recruiting is chapter one in the guide to winning college basketball. GM's personality is that of a closer, IB's is vastly different. My early inclination is that IB is good at making players feel happy and relaxed. Wichita State is not the kind of program where life-time assistant coaches get their first shot. Things so far are working out MUCH better than expected. I'm happy for everybody. But, we need to go after established head coaches if and when they are available. With IB winning, it keeps the pressure off and allows us to make a good decision.
If IB has a successful season, he will have guaranteed himself a head coaching job at a top 150-200 school somewhere. Nothing should be guaranteed at WSU.

Not looking to debate or anything. It seems Few took over at age 37 after 10 years w/ the Zags. IB got the interim job at WSU at age 51 after 19 yrs. of D1 assistant coaching. The career paths are dissimilar. IB should take this opportunity and make the best of it! I'm sure he will. :)

The vast majority of coaches aren't head coaching material - particularly at a top job. You gotta be a killer. Not necessarily in the mold of Marshall... but extremely competitive with that "alpha gene".
I just don't think IB has the gene. We'll see how he grows into his position.
