  • At this rate, we may be out of the Top 100 by the time we win the conference tournament.

    • We are totally going to get dicked by other teams not being able to play us. If that happens, it's bullshit.

And no one but us will care.

      • Palm has bumped us up 2 spots. We're now the top of the 10 line.

        • If it is necessary to humiliate opposing players and teams in order to advance in the metrics and the NET, then we have a totally broken system of measurements. If the system punishes teams that allow the end of the bench and the walkons to play in lopsided games, then the system is broken.

We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

          • That’s why I was frustrated when they took their foot of the gas up 28+ points.

With the way the efficiency and other metrics seem to work, margin of victory and playing your absolute hardest to the end seems to be important.

            • The metrics should stop counting when the game is statistically out of reach. I think Haslametrics does this in its formula. Who cares what happens in garbage time? It says nothing about the strength of a team.

WSU is only ranked 78 according to them. So not any friendlier to the Shox.

WSU seems to be really punished for a lot of their game being close. If a few of them were by a couple more baskets, then this might not even be a topic of conversation.

                • We covered kenpom's expectation by +7 margin, but still dropped?

                  • The problem isn't scoring output ... if we need a wider scoring margin, the problem is very much on the defensive end and letting opponents score too much. We are 40th in Kenpom AdjO, but 114th in AdjD.

                    • KenPom also has two teams with losing records in the top 50

                      #47: 9-15
                      #35: 9-13

How that happens, is a f***ing crazy

                      • I've been saying it for two weeks now that it is ridiculous that we are "on the bubble.". We should be solidly in the field.
KenPom, NET Rankings are a joke to prop up Power Conference schools like Duke, Kentucky, Penn State, etc.

The Coaches Poll, voted by, obviously, the coaches in the trenches, has us at 30, and we will likely be higher in their Rankings tomorrow.. They would seem to be the best judges of where the teams fall out.

Not only is it ridiculous, given our history over the past decade, that we have to sweat getting into the tournament every year, it is equally ridiculous for a team like Memphis State not to be solidly in the bracket.

The whole ratings\measuring system is a scam to protect the Power Five Conferences, along with the Big East and to ensure to the television providers that they get as many "big name" schools in as possible.

Glad to see some of you FINALLY getting indignant at the crappy treatment WSU gets year after year.

Which coincides with the article earlier in the year about defensive rebounding.

I agree both those have been much more lax this season then in the past and need to be worked on, but is it worse then going 9-15 and letting your team score less points?

                          • Losing "pretty" is more valuable than winning "ugly". Humiliating weak teams is more valuable than winning close games over better competition. That really looks like a formula to reward P5 conferences.

It seems the method of evaluating teams now includes something like this:

"I know they lost a lot of games, but look at how well they played when they lost those games. They must be rewarded for how well they did when they lost those games".

I didn't see KenPom's predictor for the Shox at the start of the season, but I saw others, and the Shox were predicted to have a losing record. I'm guessing the Shox consistently beat KenPom's predictors by winning games he predicted we would lose. Yet somehow the Shox did not get any bump in rankings for beating the predictors. Beating the predictors doesn't seem to count if an argument can be made that a team wasn't efficient in beating the predictors and winning the game.

Everything seems to be set up to actually reward and justify "quality losses". "Quality losses" used to be a joke. Now it seems to be embedded in the evaluation methods. This is insane.

You mean like 4 banked in threes? Who’s the “lucky” team?
