Better hope he has a bad season in the Cape if you want him to be back!

Aaron Meade, a junior, goes in the late 10th.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

As do I! It'll be a calculated risk either way for Cooper. If you watch the results, there are several cases where players were drafted in higher rounds only to not sign and come back the next year with a much lower round. One case I've noticed today is Varner from UT at Arlington. Drafted in the 34th round in 2009 as a Junior. Went today in the 6th round as a Senior. Obviously, it will come down to money as well as where they see Cooper starting out (ie, Rookie ball vs A ball).
Jamie Bluma came back for his senior year afer a fine junior season. His rise in the draft was dramatic.

I say we gather up all of these examples and hand deliver them to Cooper and family. Who is with me???

If he has a good summer the Indians will pay 3rd round money to get him signed and there won't be much upside to that.

Lucas O'Rear just got drafted in the 13th. Did I miss something? Has he played baseball in the last year??

I noticed that too. He wasn't eligable to be drafted until this year.

Wasn't Cooper just a sophmore? If so, you can't compare in to Juniors being drafted then holding out for their senior year. Don't seniors typically sign for a little less because they don't have the leverage of going back to college? If Cooper has another good year, he'll at a minimum get whatever he's being offered now if not a lot more.

                    That's what's going to happen.

Coop is in a situation where teams will be willing to offer him early money, but won't risk an early draft pick on him. Signability issues drop players into lower rounds, but can actually raise the offers they get.

I have a feeling that Coop will get an offer around $500 to $600K some time in early August. Bye, Jordan. It's been great having you here.

Yep, Cooper is a draft-eligible sophomore meaning he turns 21 within 45 days (I believe) of the draft. And, yes, seniors do not have the leverage that juniors do for the reason you stated. The risks for him are twofold... he may get injured or he may just not have as good of a year as this past year. As much as I would love to have him back, I'm betting he won't be.

I'm slightly optimistic that we'll see him wear black and yellow again. He's got top round potential, and high signing bonus potential ($1 mil +).

As a junior, I'd think he could have both.

Through 20 rounds, no more news so far.

It is a waiting game now with Coop. A lot will probably depend on how he does this summer. He has until August 16th to sign.

He was a 17th round draft pick out of Hs by the BoSox in 2008.

Brent commented on his last show that Coop does have some things he could work on. He needs to drop a few mph from his change and if he could develop an effective 4th pitch, such as a slower version of his slider or a slurve, that could help him also.

Coop went lower than most thought he would so we at least have a shot at getting him back for one more year.

The good news is that no other Shocker player or recruit has been called yet after 21 complete rounds.

The bad news is that no other Shocker player or recruit has been called yet after 21 complete rounds.
