  • 2010 MLB Draft on June 7 - 9

The other day a couple of posters commented on what was up next for the Shocks.

The 2010 MLB Draft may actually be it.

I found this mock draft covering 8 rounds.

Full round 2023 NFL mock draft projections, with trades and compensatory picks based on weekly team projections and college and amateur player rankings.

4 MVC players were listed as follows:

INS - Jacob Petricka RHP - 2nd Round
MSU - Mike Kickham LHP - 5th Round
WSU - Jordan Cooper RHP - 7th Round
MSU - Aaron Meade LHP - 7th Round

No Shocker recruits were included in the 8 rounds of this mock draft.

The real deal starts next Monday.

One guy I wouldn't mind going fairly high in the draft is Valley POY Kevin Tokarski of ILS.

He is a redshirt sophomore and draft eligible as he is already 21.

So how do you others feel about Coop and WSU's chances of holding on to him if he does indeed go in the 7th round?

        I'll say 50/50.

Much better if he's selected by the Twins, Royals, Padres, etc. rather than any team from New York, Chicago or LA.

Personally, I think he comes back if he's taken in the 6th round or higher. One more year like this and he'd probably go in the 2nd round.

IMO Coop stays if he goes in the 7th, if he stayed he could be a 1st or a 2nd the following year

Let's selfishly hope that's his thinking as well.

I think it is unlikely Coop would move appreciably higher in the draft if he stays another year and you always have the risk of injury if you return. It would not be easy improving on his numbers from this year if he does return.

It is very hard to predict these things and there always seem to be surprises one way or the other.

The fact that Coop is an outstanding student works in our favor.

If signability is thought to be an issue with Coop he might fall a few rounds which would improve our chances of him returning.

He might have a few organizations that he simply doesn't want to play for. If that's the case and he is drafted by an organization he likes he may want to sign this year to avoid the chance of being drafted next year by an organization he doesn't like.

If he goes in the 7th round or better I think odds are in favor of him signing. Perhaps he has a number in mind as to what it will take to sign him and that will make the decision for him.

If he is selected by a "money" team he will be gone with the amount of signing bonus money they can throw his way. Smaller market teams won't be so inclined to sign him with large amounts.jmo

I think that's changed quite a bit over the past 2 years. Even the small market clubs will certainly try and sign most prospects. Not many top 5-7 round draft picks will go unsigned.

MLB clubs will make every effort to draft those they are certain will sign.

The Washington Nationals fell into the trap of not doing their research recently, and only were able to sign a couple prospects. Since that draft (2008?), and falling on their face in front of their fans, more teams have taken the signability approach.

I'd venture a guess that if Coop goes in the 7th round, he ends up with an offer more suited to a 3rd round pick.

I'm still mildly nervous about Coy. Baseball Draft Report listed him as the 12th best college 3B prospect in the draft, and that was before his strong finish.

It's clear to me that he needs a lot of work defensively, but his power potential is undeniable. Hopefully nobody will take a flier on him any higher than the late double-figure rounds. He would be a mainstay next year who could really improve his stock with the trajectory he's on.

                        20. Alabama SR 3B Jake Smith Players coming off of more accomplished collegiate seasons precede Smith on this list, so take this aggressive ranking as a show of good faith that the Alabama senior’s…

I will call it right now. If the big fellow stays, he hits around .400 with 15-20 bombs next year and is drafted in the first three rounds.

I will call it right now. He sees how this team stacks up for next season and wants no part of it and will begin his pro career. Cooper and Coy will be huge losses as well as Minnis.

Will we drop the baseball program as well, since we have no chance of success in the future? Shouldn't we?
