  • Tough situation for everyone involved. While it does suck for CJ, sometimes in life you have to answer for your actions.

Like they say: It takes a lifetime to build a reputation, but only a second to bring it down. Fair or not, he will be judged by this one action in the public eye.

Hopefully, he will be able to grow from this experience and use it to better himself and his career.

    • Oh and by the way, some friends/coaching staff he's got. Where the hell were they when CJ started to behave in a manner which would lead to ruin? You gotta get your man's back, and I refuse to believe his friends/staff with him at the bar were all sauced as much as he was. Shame on them for not leading him out the door before things got worse. Now, a man's still accountable for his actions, so while I say shame on his friends for failing to come to the rescue, CJ has to take his medicine.

      • That's pretty bad.

I was really hoping it was a fight.

In a way it was. A fight he had no chance to win.

          • Yeah career suicide. Life in the big-leagues these days. Cameras everywhere. Gotta be a "stand-up" guy 24/7. Back to the Juco ranks unfortuenently for Jans. Sometimes assistants are assistants for a reason.

I had heard that his real "expertise" was scouting and game planning. After a year to let things calm down I would
think that it might, I say might, be reasonable to hire him in that capacity without making him an official

Nope. No chance. Maybe in several years but you cant bring this into your program at this point and expect to save face.

If this was an out-of-character, drunken mistake on his part, I'm disappointed in Jans, but could see him returning to WSU in a few years as an assistant.

If this is a pattern of behavior, I'm disgusted with him and don't want him anywhere near the university.

                    • Probably going to have to coach in a D League or somewhere out of a campus environment. Would be a PR nightmare for schools with coeds.

I really like CJ. I hope he can get the help he needs, and recover from this mess. His wife is about the nicest person I've ever met which saddens me even more about this event

Can't see anyone "upper tier" taking a chance on head coach for quite a while. But, one of my old coaches (Jerry Mullen) runs a JuCo scouting service; Jans could certainly do this for a while to show he's back on the right track.

                        • The thing about CJ is his ability to scout teams to the point where our guys know the other teams plays as well as they did. There were times that I could swear we had guys waiting on
a pass, a screen, or a cutter before it even happened.
I invented the cross-over dribble in the early 70's

Yeah, I was kind of perplexed about that "at least one" terminology myself. An odd way of stating it.
