Perhaps some middle ground is the way to go. Maybe a matching contribution from a County-Wide tax in whatever form that takes that would match whatever amount is raised privately up to a maximum amount.

Obtain commitments of $200 million (or whatever amount is deemed necessary) from those who want WSU football and the County will endeavor to match that or something along those lines.

That would be the way to go normally, but with the current political situation in the County would not allow for this. The current majority on the County Commission feel that tax money should only go for roads and fire and police. They will most likely not allow County tax funds go for this.

The city benefits from having football and a new stadium, too. Just like it benefits from having Intrust Bank Arena. The stadium could host various events, Shrine Bowl, High School football and playoffs, summertime concerts, etc. that all bring dollars into the city that get taxed. And the business owners see increases in their businesses too. I'm not saying it should all be funded by a sales tax, but certainly the people, in general, benefit from the tax revenue created through the building and use of the facility.

No way. This article discussed pro football, but the similarities are still present; in fact, for even FEWER college games, the impact would be economically less. And that's IF you could get a 1% tax to pass...good luck with that. Instead of Wichita, how about we impose a 20 year 1% sales tax exclusively for the folks in Lawrence and Manhattan, to fund our program?

You know what, the folks in Lawrence are very liberal. They espouse socialist virtues and want equity across the board. How fair is it that WSU doesn't have football, but they do? I think they need to give some of that obscene state funding they suck on like a vacuum, to rev up our program. Isn't that how socialism works?

Or maybe it's time we just split the state funding in three equal shares, according to their philosophy?

Sales tax is the most fair tax there is, as long as it applies to absolutely everything. This would be a municipal stadium, what other uses would the city have for it, other than leasing it to WSU for football?
