Saw on coogfans.com that the UH president, Renu Khator, was in Phoenix for the Final Four.

That's my biggest concern. The MVC backing out and then if we're a protected seed, we'd still be forced to host it which would disqualify us from being able to play in Wichita. Obviously that's a big IF, but it still worries me.
Agreed. I've thought the same thing. If we're a part of the MVC, the MVC has an incentive to independently host the site since that would be better for us, and therefore better for the conference. That incentive goes away if we're in the AAC.

It seems to me the issue is whether the MVC can back out and be replaced by the AAC.

Someone asked Suelentrop this. He basically said that it won't change. Preparations are really far along and if either party ever wishes to host the NCAA again, they wont screw it up due to WSU moving.

        • I would think that if it's possible for the AAC to pick up hosting duties, it would. It would be good for the conference and good for its new member. Another win-win.

Not positive on this but I think WSU and the Wichita sports commission are the sponsors and the MVC never was.

That is an interesting thought, but the MVC is currently listed as co-host on the NCAA site: http://www.ncaa.com/MBBPrelims

Yeah - my reading was that the only reason for the MVC (or in this case AAC) to be involved would be if WSU was potentially a protected seed.

Would suck if we were a 1-3 seed and had go play miles away while KU gets to play IBA.

I would say that is very likely to happen.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

This article didn't mention the MVC. Not sure if that means anything or not.

MVC is absolutely a co-host. Also I'm fairly certain an NCAA institution or organization MUST be the host for the event. At least from every tournament I can see that has been the case.

Seems pretty clear in this one that MVC is a co-host. http://www.intrustbankarena.com/aren...ter/news?r=678

Yeah, we need the MVC more than the MVC needs us. Sheeesh! So glad to get rid of our sucker fish.

True, but it is common for just a conference or just a school to host individually.
