You mean they STILL have to have an ID even when they aren't present? You mean just like the ABSENTEE BALLOTS that allow you to send your vote in with a photograph of your photo ID?

Keep trying to come up with contrived scenarios, maybe there is a gotcha in there somewhere, but I doubt it.

I have no idea if there is any truth to your assertion that you can use a library card to register for welfare. If so that is criminal and should be halted immediately.

He didn't say anything about controlling the weather, but he did mention that we should be stewards of the earth (not his exact words) according to the scriptures. Most Christians know this. Those who are atheist or agnostic probably doesn't know this or doesn't care.

      From Revelation 11,
17 Saying, "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because You have taken Your great power and reigned. 18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, and those who fear Your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.”
Just think what it would be like if all farmers, and really anyone who uses the earth to grown food, would obey the laws set forth thousands of years ago by God about caring for the land.

      From Leviticus 25,
3 Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather its fruit; 4 but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a sabbath to the Lord. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard. 5 What grows of its own accord of your harvest you shall not reap, nor gather the grapes of your untended vine, for it is a year of rest for the land. 6 And the sabbath produce of the land shall be food for you: for you, your male and female servants, your hired man, and the stranger who dwells with you, 7 for your livestock and the beasts that are in your land—all its produce shall be for food.

The only gotcha I have is the cost. Make the IDs free like they are in Kansas and I have no problem with it.

Edit: On the library card, I only read that online and it probably doesn't apply to every place.

It's more principle than actual cost that chaps my hide. If we forget our principles, then what's the point of the Constitution? I think requiring some form of ID is very valid and reasonable, and the Supreme Court has also taken that position. You can't have non-citizens voting and screwing up our elections. But I get very uneasy when our government starts to impose conditions on our rights (especially fundamental ones like voting) that impact people in disparate ways. The 24th amendment is just as important as the first and the second. The slippery slope starts with, "Well, you can vote, but only if you purchase an ID." But where does it end? Will states start raising the fee to obtain an ID because of "budget cuts"? What other conditions will they start dreaming up? This kind of stuff makes me sick to my stomach.

Interesting. If there are some states that issue free IDs and some states that don't, I wonder if that's a violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. No, I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. But if a Federal law is passed to require an ID to vote, I wouldn't be surprised if some lawyer had a field day with this because of all the different ID laws in the states.

Fruit was mentioned, as were vineyards. Corn is a vegetable, so my guess is that ethanol is an abomination in the eyes of the lord.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Ooooooh so maybe THAT was the premise behind the horror flick "Children of the Corn"? After all these years, I finally get it.

For people on fixed income who need every single dollar just to survive (or to at least make it through the night on a full stomach), it's a big difference. They have a choice of paying $15 for an ID or having their 3 kids go to bed hungry.

I don't have any problem with the photo ID as long as there is no cost. I know Kansas gives out free IDs.

I have never had a problem with voter ID laws until I found out last night that my parents who are hard core lifelong Republicans didn't vote in the Kansas Primary this year because my mom doesn't have a photo ID.

My Dad decided if she couldn't vote, he wouldn't either (they always do everything together). I was pretty stunned to find this out.

It is more than just the money (they are middle class, the money wasn't a problem). It was the hassle. My mom quit driving as her arthritis got worse about 10 years ago. My dad took my mom to the DMV to get a photo ID card this summer and after waiting for OVER 2 HOURS with no end in sight, gave up and went home.

I think they will try one more time before the general, but if there are still long lines at the DMV, my dad said they just won't vote again. He sounded pretty disgusted with the whole situation. I don't think my parents have ever missed an election in the last 50 years.

It really made me think about the people over 70. We take photo ID for granted but there are lot of people over 70 who always vote but no longer have a drivers license. Think about all of the people in nursing homes. The DMV really needs to get their act together. We should not make it that big of a hassle to vote.

                            Maybe this helps ya:

                            1) "Persons age 65 or older may use expired photo ID documents." Most people keep their old drivers licenses or expired passports around.

                            2) But if she doesn't have an old one or really wants a current state ID: If the lines are long the DMV will take your mobile phone number and text you when there is about 15 to 30 minutes before its your turn -- so they can go eat some breakfast or do a little shopping around the Twin Lakes Shopping Center area (including Town West) while they wait.

I told her about the expired license (I already knew that and so did they) but since it has been over 10 years, she didn't have it.

They also don't have cell phones, but I guess I could let them borrow mine so they could do that. My dad sounded pretty disgusted with the whole situation at the DMV. If there are really long lines again, I am not sure he will have the patience to even do the cell phone thing if I give him my phone. He thinks the DMV is a joke. The DMV made him mad enough that if he did vote again he would never vote for Brownback again.
