Under Kamala's plan, you'd owe taxes on the $50,000 gain, even though you haven't sold the shares or made any actual profit. Now, imagine the stock's value drops back to $100,000 the following year. The gain you were taxed on has vanished. You’ve already paid a 25% tax on a gain that no longer exists, leaving you with a financial loss and no real benefit. Taxing unrealized gains would force investors to sell off assets to cover their tax bills, hurting long-term investment and economic growth. This isn’t just risky; it’s a recipe for a stock market crash and another Great Depression.
Just my math here, but in 5-10 years of paying this tax, your capital gain is practically gone, in addition to your cash.
Seems to me that you will sell your gain, pay the tax once, and you will not be investing anymore.
Sounds great.

Just like all the fake ass Hollywood elite and celebrities and a lot of the professional athletes who are left-wing socialist kooks but built their fortunes on the back of capitalism. It’s hilariously bizarre. More importantly, FAKE.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

I'm not sure about this. But don't investment firms, like most people use for their retirement accounts, company 401's, purchase stocks in bulk and divide out the dividends to individuals based on each individuals investment?

I do wish the middle-class could have gotten a larger portion of the new wealth through direct investment. Trying to fix the wealth gap by pounding on the heads of the rich is ultimately counterproductive. Their money is very mobile.
I'm okay with more pain on the heirs/trust fund babies. unearned money is by-and-large very corrosive to the soul.
Ya'll just need to calm down. Turn off the GD talk radio. The end of the world is not coming... yet.Last edited by C0|dB|00ded; August 21, 2024, 03:49 PM.
