They also said we'd get a "Bass Pro Shop" type themed store and we got Gander Mountain. This probably just means we'll get some other kind of no-namer.

      ... No really, deuces.

You know KC Shox, there is really not much difference between Gander Mountain products and offerings and Bass Pro Shops. The only things different are the Tracker Boats, and the Atmosphere. Yes, the atmosphere is nice the first couple times you go, but then it becomes a nuisance working through all the areas to get what you want. I like that Gander is open with less in your way to get what you want.

BTW...this is not contingent on the county and tax dollars, but for your sake I would be prepared to be disappointed. You would be disappointed if it was a Cheesecake Factory as it wouldn't be as good as the one you at at in XXX city that is not Wichita.

Was the KC Shox reference supposed to be some kind of a joke? Because I didn't get it?

Oh, my bad. You two talk so much a like that I have to pay close attention to the name to know which Nancy is talking (BTW, that is a reference to Negative Nancy...FYI).

I, based on your signature and thoughts during the winter, thought you were just in baseball withdrawal. But you and KC Shox take any shot you can at the Shockers, call out other "fans" based on their actions, and then berate the Shockers and any other topic on here to death.

I'll save you two the trouble...Here's a post for to copy and paste for the next year:

No legitimate basketball recruit will come here, the baseball team will not host a regional, we will be lucky to win the conference regular season or tourney, then we may be left out of the NCAA field. If we do get in, we won't get out of the regional as we can't pitch or hit. The track team...who cares. Over the summer, the pickup basketball games will suck, the draft will take our top players (who by your opinion suck, so why not let them go and get others that suck), and Sexton will not do a good job as AD as he has no other athletic department experience. Volleyball will be ok, but they are overrated. They don't deserve to go to the NCAA because they lost one match in conference they should have won. Basketball may have early success next year, but wait till they play a real team, like Texas Tech. When they beat them, it will be pointed out they are not that good of a team and will probably finish in the bottom of the Big 12. Women's ball will suck period (Hopefully you give Coach Adams some time to recruit and develop what talent she has before calling her out), and as Baseball season again approaches, you will speak positively about them until the first pitch, which will be criticized because it isn't the player you thing should be pitching on opening day.

Damn, that hurt. How do you two do it all day every day?

Gander Mountain doesn't equal Bass Pro Shops. And based on tendencies with this city, simply a 'Cheesecake Factory' type store reference shouldn't surprise anyone if it's a lower profile chain.

It's a realistic possibility. I've realized it's better to be labeled a 'negative' realist, than a blind homer.

Comparing me to KC though is quite a laugher..

I grew up less than 15 miles from the original Bass Pro Shop. I watched it grow from that into what it is today. Needless to say, there isn't much competition in that area, so you really didn't have much choice where to shop.

Believe me, as someone that has "frequented" both, if you want frill, show, etc, Bass Pro is Bass Pro and you cannot compete with that. If you need outdoor, camping, or hunting equipment or gear, Gander has every bit the same amount of selection, and typically cheaper prices.

The problem is that you don't have to be a 'negative realist' to not be a 'blind homer'. There are many 'Realist', that accept the realization, but still HOPE for more recognition than we will likely receive. Many don't post that we should be a national seed, but have the hope that we can host a regional, basing this on the past success of the regionals, our teams strong record, and that MONEY talks.

Comparing you to KC is a laugher? Really, compare your statements in the baseball thread. It's really quite uncanny how similar they are. This is a restaurant thread so I won't post them here, and you can pm me if you wish to discuss further about it.

As for your lower profile 'Cheesecake Factory' thought, is it un-realistic to think we would get an actual 'Cheesecake Factory'. Wichita has one of the highest disposable income averages in the US. There are few places to eat downtown that are not fast food, and many more lofts and urban living developments in the works. The arena is set to open in a couple years, and the city seems to be supporting the downtown renaissance, and think a staple restaurant would be very successful there.

Bass Pro or Gander what does it matter. Neither would do great here. And personally I think the city would be better without either one.

I think it would be awesome for us to get a CF here. I dunno how that's negative? But realistically, I just don't see it happening. This city council has proven time and time again to eff things up and seems to prefer the 1950's type lifestyle. I'm willing to hold out a little hope, but I'd say it's not likely. I apologize for not acting like Wichita is a Denver, KC, or Dallas..

As for the baseball stuff, bring it in the baseball forum. I'm game. Again, if you'd learn to take your shades off once in a while, you'd might be able to see the other side of the argument. Do I think we have a chance to host? Sure. Do I think our hosting chances will be good going 0-6 against the Top 25? No. Sorry if that's a tad 'out-of-line'.

I used to really hang it on KC. I now realize he's just being realistic about things. And that doesn't make him any less of a fan for it, despite me sometimes wanting to ring his neck.

                        Quoted for Truth, brother...

I could go for some Crispy Pork Tenderloin, crusted & sautéed with lemon-caper sauce, with a side macaroni and cheese.

The problem with Gander Mtn is that Bass Pro is a quasi tourist attraction and that's what WaterWalk needed.

Really? Better without one? So we can go shopping for any outdoor supplies at Dick's right?

It's no wonder this city goes nowhere.. everyone thinks we already have everything we need. If you like the "small town nothing here" big city type vibe then you are right.

I agree. We're starting to get more big name restuarants to come here, and downtown's gets revitalized with a new arena and a new slew of other businesses coming through and getting deals done every week. If we want to be a bigger city, we have to start to act like it and that starts with the people.

I dont know about the city being with out one. I just know that Im not going to step foot in Gander Mountain or a Bass Pro Shop so neither one carry my intrest.

But if thats your bag then thats cool. I can think of a million things that Wichita needs but it wont ever happen unless I get that Daddy Warbuck money.

Apparently I upset a few. I, as well, will never step foot in either. They're nowhere near interesting to me. And everytime i've driven by Gander it's about as empty as can be. I really doubt a Bass Pro would be any better.

I'm far from someone as you described that wants nothing new. I just want something that will add to the city. I don't really see either Gander or Bass Pro doing that. And considering what I've seen, I haven't been wrong. (Unless I've just driven by at bad times...)

I guess I just don't see how Bass Pro and/or Gander give Wichita a big city feel...
