  • In the post game interview, Coach said that he told Mr.Stutz after the game, "if your son isn't averaging 20 points a game by the end of his sophmore year, then I'm not doing my job."

I heard that too, and could only think how great that would be. I'd take 20 ppg from a 7 footer anyday. Plus imgine how that would open up the rest of the floor. I get chills thinking about it.

      • I have never heard a coach so openly raise expectations of a recruit like Marshall has done with this kid. I don't think he would be doing so unless he was beyond confident that he will live up to those expectations. I can't help but think that he will end up being a Nick Fazekas type who contributes from day one and ends up an All-American candidate. I hope my expectations are not out of line, but nothing has been said to indicate that HCGM's expectations are any less. I am already looking forward to Shocker Madness next year (I hope it is on a weekend so I can make it), not only to see GS, but hopefully EO and all the other new talent.

I think that the thing that is most encouraging about Marshall's willingness to hype Garrett is his overall honesty about the players he has. He has been willing to admit the short comings of a number of players and of the team collectively in an honest and forthcoming manner. This suggests that he isn't trying to overhype Stutz, but rather is being honest about the talent he sees, just as he always is.

          • As the High School season starts it's push to state, I wanted to update this with a bit of information.

KC North is in District 16 in Missouri with 5 other schools trying to qualify for state.

Oak Park would seem to be the best team in the district, ranked #7 in 5A, and the team I watched play KC North. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with OP (obviously I am rusty on HS evals at this point) and I certainly felt like that was a game KCN should have won (they lost by 2 or 3 I think). If they have improved as much as they appear to have, they are going to be one tough out come Tourney time.

One of the teams they beat in their own tournament last week, Ruskin, is ranked #5 in 4A.

All of our kids coming in are not only playing great basketball, but their teams are exceling as well.

Which gives even more reason to be excited about the incoming class.

Garrett Stutz North Kansas City High School scores 32 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots...

Milton Garner of Ruskin was named KC High School Athlete of the Week (Boys) for his performance in the North KC Tourney:

                  Milton Garner

                  •SCHOOL: Ruskin

                  •YEAR: Senior

                  •SPORT: Basketball

Ruskin didn’t quite meet its end goal at last week’s North Kansas City Invitational, but it certainly wasn’t because of a lack of stellar performances by Garner. In the first round, the 6-foot-1 swingman poured in 21 points in a 70-52 victory over St. Joseph Lafayette. In the semifinals, a four-overtime thriller over previously undefeated Oak Park, Garner scored a game-high 45 points, including a game-saving three-pointer at the end of the third overtime. Ruskin lost to NKC by 15 in the final, but Garner still scored a team-high 26 points.

                  • Tonight I sat on the front row on the left side of the student section. About 30 mins before tip off us students got a great surprise. Garrett Stutz and his brother Logan came down into the stands and talked to a bunch of us. All I can say about his is he seemed like a really grounded kid. Didn't seem to be full of himself or anything like that. Also...he is so fricken tall. Definately a legit 7 footer or more. Just thought I would share that with you all.

First, I love that he keeps the ball high and takes advantage of his height.

Second, how awesome is it that a HS kid has those kind of post skills? Off-hand baby-hook?, Who in the Valley is going to stop that?

                              • #41 GS had me foaming at the mouth as I watched him stoke that 3 and he can make free-throws like Paul Miller. He actually appears to be a glorified version of Paul Miller when he was that age. Kerry will get him bulked up and then watch out!!!! You can't teach height.

Next year, we should have a public announcement that WSU is selling tickets for a huge sell-out gathering for Shocker Madness. We will pack it in at the Chuck. 7 Choppers will circle the arena 7 times as we witness it on a big screen. "You all ready for this?"

They will land as it did on Shocker Madness this Season. Chopper #1 will feature the old with the new. First out will be GM who will return for next year with GS. We will be going wild! Next chopper will feature one returning player with 1 of the above our new recruits including the new ones we will sign.. By when we finally get to the 7th chopper, the Chuck will be the loudest ever as total pandemonium sets in! "Ladies and Gentlemen---Let's get ready to rumble!!!!!!!!!!"

The 7th Chopper Door opens. Out walks R.C. and he smiles and put down his wheels--"his skateboard" and heads behind all the others, passing them while heading to the arena. He has a reason for being so excited and in a hurry to get there. Next HCGM exits the chopper and they hand him "the mike" as we all are wondering what will happen next. HCGM says "Shocker fans, I would like to introduce to you phase 2 of our Twin Tower Connection---and as he says this---a very tall young man exits the Chopper and Coach calls out his name EEEEEEE-------OOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Oh but I am not done yet. As they all enter the arena, we cheer for each, one at a time. Then, to reward the fans for staying so loyal each year here, we actually get a full-game scrimmage to get a "birds-eye-view" of our new squad. By the way---the Chuck will indeed be sold out again and full for next Season.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
