  • So my answer is the 4 currently signed and 4 more. Coach all but published his intentions during the Drake game. Plus I see that some other have given up on a certain gaurd now.

And I believe the bringing JT back will be more of a liability than an asset. Doing what he has done the past couple of games doesn't show that he can do any better if he has to.

    • Definitely Here Next Year (7):
      Ramon Clemente
      Aaron Ellis
      A. J. Hawkins
      Garrett Sutz
      Clevin Hannah
      David Kyles
      Toure Murray

      Probably Here Next Year (2):
      Mantas Griskenas
      Ehimem Orupke

That Leaves 4 Spots to Fill From:
      J.T. Durley
      Gal Mekel
      Wendell Preadom
      Graham Hatch
      Additional TBD Recruits

My guess is HCGM will sign a minimum of two more. In that case, my guess is that Gal and Graham will "decide" to pursue other opportunities.

Whether or not HCGM decides to sign another 1 or 2 players on top of that will probably depend on what kind of commits he is able to get and how he assesses J.T.'s chances of becoming the kind of player he wants.
Of course, it's possible J.T. and Wendell may make the decision for HCGM and depart on their own accord.

While I have listed EO as probably here, that also remains a wild card that is difficult to assess.

      • Interesting, although not a real encouraging, article on the Spring Signing Period.

        • Spring Signing Period For Basketball this year is April 16 - May 21.

May get some verbals prior that time period, but we won't know for sure unitl April 16th, at the earliest. Although, I would think verbals for this late signing period would generally be pretty solid.

That may be true about the large late classes. But coach really didn't have time to evaluate the returners properly and thus didn't know how many he needed to sign. I think he has had plenty of time to figure it out now and will do what he thinks he needs to be able to compete and win.

Players like Beckham are (at least on paper) better than a couple of players that are questionable, at best, at this point. Herrera would probably be another one as well. We just won't know what's going on until after this weekend. So everything should become clearer after the season has been done for a week or so.

            • Griskenas showed some promise finally just a game or two before he got hurt.

At the beginning of the season he seemed to be very hesitant to really get in and mix it up, possibly a result of his first knee injury.

I believe he should be given every opportunity to come back, but realistically, with two knee injuries, what are his chances of regaining the form he obviously had to have been selected as a 1st Team JUCO All American?

Since the injuries are to seperate legs, there is a chance he can come back without anymore problems than he was having. However, it really comes down to what a doctor says, or how he recovers. If it was an injury to the same knee as the first time, I would say the odds are good that he is done. But since it isn't, we'll just have to see. But anyway you look at it, he will at least have a scholarship to complete school with, one way or the other.

                • I believe JT will be back; he is a RS freshman with 3 more years. I would expect improvement each year. For a freshman year, he has been a typical freshman - it's just magnified because of our lack of depth. I agree that there could be up to 4 more players - 4 more not returning, but I think the 4 could be a little different and possibly not quite reach that total. IMO. :wsu_posters:

                  • Hard to tell exactly who will be back next year. A lot will depend on who HCGM can get in the late signing period, not everyone can be a starter, we also need practice players and dependable reserves.

Right now I don't think Gal is coming back. JT, Hatch, and Preadom are all question marks. Gris and EO both question marks for different reasons. EO has to make it to the US and MG has to rehab his knee. I'm pretty sure it is not the same knee he injured the first time and he felt that this injury was not as severe as the first one. It should be easier for the coach to make an evaluation by the time he needs to make a decision. Hatch appears to lack quickness, but he does have a good stroke from outside.

It looks like another PG is needed, a freshman would be nice. A JUCO PF or CF with good size would also be nice. A freshman or JUCO poat either a PF or center would be great if EO doesn't show or Gris can't come back.

Looks like we have to wait a couple of months to see what is going to happen. Again we hired HCGM to make these tough choices and I will trust him to make these choices. He could just decide to say screw it and get the hell out of Dodge, but I doubt it. I look foreward to an improved season next year, good talent but freshmen, and a great season the next year.

I don't think he bolts next year because he still has something to prove next year and his his son has some games to play against GS. I could be wrong, have been many times, if next year is one of them we have a multi-year rebuilding process in front of us.

                    • Considering the spring signing period is April 16th through May 21st, and that Griskenas's rehabilation takes longer than that, coach will be making a decision on him before May 21st.

So, Gris will not really have the opportunity to see how good his leg is before coach makes a decision one way or the other.

                      • All this speculation is just retarded if you ask me. Way to much speculation going on. I feel bad for all the guys as this has been a brutal year but I don't think most of the speculation for each player is justified or warranted for the most part. I know everyone fancies their own opinions and likes to toss it around about what they think, but the only opinion that i care about is the coaches and I trust him to make the decisions that are best. Gris will be back and I can't see how there would or even could be any speculation to lead anyone to think differently. So the kid had some unfortunate luck with his knee. I cant believe anyone would want to toss him aside and screw him over for that. You expect kids to commit to the university and not to the coach well then you should expect that university to commit to you as well. i cant see Gris not returning because he blew his knee out playing his ass off on the court for us. Thats no way to handle things. I don't think the university or the coach could endorse that sort of thing. If Gris isn't back next year and its because coach screws him like that due to injury then I don't know if I can get behind the guy. Sure I would still love and support WSU but i would lose respect for the man and the athletic department in a substantial way. It just wouldn't be right in any shape or form. Now if Gris realizes he cant or isn't interested in making a recovery or return to the team and both sides decides thats best then thats another thing all together. Soon we will all know and we can quit speculating about all this and everyone and everything will be better off.

My post had nothing to do with MY preferences nor did I express a preference. It was simply an OPINION on what I think might happen based on what I see.

I'm GUESSING that Gal will CHOOSE not to return next year. I have no hard evidence to support that though. Just my read on things.

I don't think Gal will be interested in riding the bench much, and I think he may see there is a potential for that. His play of late, has certainly regressed. On the other hand Wendell, assuming a scholarship is available to him, may be pefectly happy to return and be pretty much limited to a practice player at the bottom of the depth chart.

                              My opinion and observations only.

Are you are Gal related or involved in anyway? If anyone says anything that might be he least bit negative toward Gal you are right there defending him back to the start of the season when you said he should start ahead of Matty B?
