        • I'm sure i'm going to get flamed on this but here goes. We have a sr. that doesn't average much more than a point a game or rebound a game or assist a game in three years under scholarship are you going to keep that player? He looks to be at the best 5 th best at any positon he can play? He is a great person, but in the reality that is NCAA basketball today. We can not afford him. I love the effort he has given, but what recuit would you want to cut to give him the job?

          • Personally, I'd keep him. Anyone who's busted thier butt for 3 years and done everything you've asked them to do deserves to finish his career and get his education at that institution if he so desires. They're student-athletes and although all most of us care about is winning and what have you done for me lately, nobody should be forced out going into thier SR year unless they're a complete disruption to the program or have legal issues or something of that nature. There are 12 other guys on scholarship you can play if you feel #13 can't do it for you. And only 8 or 9 will really ever play much in a given year.

            • The time to dismiss that player for performance reasons is before his junior year, at the latest. The coach had all the information he needed to make that call last summer.

As it stands, no recruits need to be cut to keep the senior you mention.

I will be disappointed if the senior is not offered a scholarship in his final year.

              • Personally, I'd keep him at this stage of his career, also. That being said, he may prefer to go back closer to home and finish his career starting for a D-2 school or something of that sort. My money is still on 2, perhaps 3, non-senior guys not returning, btw.

                • I would probably bet on 2 not returning next year. We definately need another PG, and that power forward we need. If Orukpe doesn't make it, then I think we sign 3 more.

All I know, is this summer will be longer than last summer. Even April 15th seems a long ways off at this point.

I think we should call next season as 'The A Team season' because we love it when a plan comes together!!!!

                  • I highly doubt CGM will flat out give WP his walking papers. However, I think he is giving him a clear signal with zero minutes over the last couple of games that playing time is over.

CGM comes across as a straight shooter and I bet he basically tells him "Wendell you're free to stay on scholarship but it's unlikely you're going to get much PT from this point further."

And I'm fine with that. But at this point you have to let Wendell choose.

                      • I don't think you HAVE TO, but I think it's the right thing to do.

The question is, of course, is WP currently thinking along those same lines?

Maybe Ryan Bradley or David King should give him a call.

i kind of agree, although if he wants to stay he should be able to stay. But i think he would have a better experience if he plays alot in his senior year and he wont be doing that if he stays

                              • Transfering in your final season would be tough. Just for acedemic reason alone, I would feel horrible about the situation. If he did, or was forced to, I hope all of his credits would transfer easily.
