I believe so. We now have to find a new thing to complain about.

    • We didn't get a Sunrise kid. Sunrise got a WSU kid.

          • Well, after Zachary actually signs -- which sounds like it shouldn't be a problem, given his enthusiasm -- we can.

Of course, if Steve Eck somehow ends up coaching at Sunrise someday, all bets are off, at least on this board.

Uh-oh, rr. I think Royal may have rescued the complainers.

He has a valid point about Sunrise getting a WSU kid, though. Sunrise just happens to be an exceptionally convenient place for Brown to spend the year prepping (that's why they call it a prep school, right?) without using up any eligibility.

Sometimes you have to give before you can get. This may be the thing that opens the door for us going forward.

                • IMHO, Sunrise wants to cultivate connections with top-level schools. Sunrise wants to recruit players who have the talent to go to the upper-echelon programs.

We may as well admit that if Sunrise is sending kids to - say - Michigan State, that's more likely to get them the players they want than if they're sending players to Wichita State. With that said, WSU is starting to move into the category where a Sunrise placement at WSU would be a positive with the types of players Sunrise wants to bring in.

Putting a solidly committed WSU player into Sunrise could really change some attitudes about Sunrise players playing at WSU. I doubt that Brown is going to look like anything but a blue blood at Sunrise.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

                  • I think that Bakary and Zach should be housemates/roommates.

                    • Here's the Eagle article. He'll be playing on the post-graduate team again junior colleges and prep schools.

This is interesting here about Sunrise being able to recruit players.

Lindsted said he received requests from players looking for a post-graduate program. Sunrise, located in Bel Aire, has an academy team, allowing it to recruit as well as take players placed there by colleges.

                      • That's the way prep schools like Sunrise operate. It's also why they don't play under the KSHSAA umbrella.

                        • The way I read the first sentence of that article is that Sunrise had a new post-graduate team. Did they have a post-graduazte team last year?

I don't think so, but it doesn't change how they work at the other levels. They recruit and take placements even if not post-graduate. They have been actively expanding their influence and talent.

Okay, I didn't know if they only did the recruiting part for the post-graduate team and the placement part for both the post-graduate and high school teams.

No they did not. What they had is several levels of varsity and junior varsity teams. Adding the post grad team this year comes as no surprise. For the first time, some Sunrise players (Marvin Clark and Larry Dennis) reclassified to another year. In the past Coach Kyle said they didn't change a players classification.
