Austin lead the decathlon by 190 points going into the final 3 events, vault, javelin and 1500, but it's probably not enough. Gooris is a huge vaulter and while average in the javelin, a monster in the 1500 as well. He could outscore Bahner by 300 at least down the stretch. It's crucial for Austin to get an early clean clearance in the vault so he's not pressured.

Shocks went 2-3-4-5 in the Dec which was about as well as they could expect. As expected Gooris came through when he needed to and won again, but WSU picks up 23 points and probably just as importantly, Justin Hickey closes the last event, the 1500, as hard as he can and makes up 222 points on Robert Webb from ISU, pushing the Tree to 6th place.
WSU also goes 1-2-3 in the high jump but probably needed Mac to score and push the ISU guy out of 8th. Still they pick up 24 points to ISU's 4.

Not unexpectedly Gooris blew buy Austin in the final three events outscoring him by 212 points on the PV, 25 in the javelin and 134 in the 1,500.
Nevertheless the 7,599 point performance by Austin was very solid. In addition, to Austin's 2nd place finish the Shocks picked up 3rd (Mac Griffith), 4th (Tobias Boese) and 5th (Justin Hickey) for a total of 23 points.
Great work men. Indiana State only picked up 3 points in the Decathlon and SIU was shut out.

Indiana State qualifies 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th and are poised to score big here.

Advantage Sycamores:
110H - Huge advantage in the 110H per above. Indiana State qualifies 4, the Shocks none.
400H - Indiana State qualifies 4 for the finals. The Shocks none.
100M - Indiana State qualifies 3 for the finals. Only Sam Glomstad-Foster advancs to the finals for the Shocks.
200M - Indiana State qaulifes 2. Shocks also qualify 2, D.J. Lindsay and Alex Reed, but Indiana State had the two fastest qualifying times. D.J. had the 4th best qualifying time and Alex the 8th.
Advantage Shocks:
400M - D.J. Lindsay, Alex Reed and Mike Flores qualify for the finals. Indiana State qualifes only 1 in this race.
800M - Ryan Hocker, Kelvin Busienei and Jake Wike qualify. Indiana State is shut out. Indiana State had the 6 and 8 best times coming in. Shocks need to take advantage with 3 good performances tomorrow.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 11, 2013, 09:30 PM.

Indiana State appears to me to all but have the men's championship wrapped up.
They will have about a 50 point advantage over WSU and a 40 point advantage over SIU just in the 110H and the 400H races plus an additional 20-25 point advantage each over WSU and SIU in the 100M & 200M races. That is simply too much to overcome.
I see Indiana State winning quite easily with around 210 points.
The real race is for 2nd place between WSU and SIU and looks like a toss up at this point with both coming in right around 170 points.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 11, 2013, 11:11 PM.

I guess the Shockers did not sweep the top 3 spots in the high jump. From goShockers.com:
However, confusion with the jumping order resulted in controversy. A Drake jumper was forced to move back in thr rotation. Despite missing on three jumps at 6-8, this athlete was allowed another opporunity to jump.
After a four hour rest period and additional warm ups, Drake's Ryan Cook rentered the competition and cleared 6-9 1/2 to win the event. Lynch took second with Budda and Graber finishing third and fourth respectively.

Shocks off to a good start on Sunday coming in 2nd in the 4x100 which is where I had them. INS, the favorite was DQ'd for running out of their lanes and SIU did not finish. INS probably can absorb the DQ but I had the Shocks picking up 2 points on SIU in this race but they picked up 8 instead.

@1972Shocker:, I actually think the guys have a shot, maybe more than the ladies at this point. Granted, it's a long shot, but let's see what happens as the next couple of events come in.
