Whether Stutz or anyone else will in the future benefit from redshirting is nothing but pure D speculation. Whether we can and have benefitted from Stutz already this year versus going without him is without question. rjl's logic was just logic; you may go with something else as you so often seem inclined.

Stutz should have redshirted

Try using this when comparing the advantages PJ gained from his RS year.
And PM, although it was technically an injury year.
Cold actually hit it right.
If you have the luxury of able bodies on board, you RS a kid like GS.
GM doesn't have that luxury.
So GS gets his baptism of fire.
End of story. 8)
So tell me, Shockref, how does redshirting a year give you anywhere as comparable a D1 basketball education as actually playing D1 games that year?
Furthermore, are you actually asserting the opposite; that PJ and PM were better their second years than they would of been had they not redshirted and played a full season of games?
I'm dying to hear your customarily well thought out, reasonable explanation that absolutely doesn't come off as another sad self applied stroke job.
Please please me.
Today's D-1 college basketball, as much as purists dislike, is won in the weight room. I'm not particularly in favor of the concept, but it is what it is. The rigors of a 40 game schedule and the toll it takes on the body is unreal. Especially when the body is not sufficiently conditioned to handle it. I see it 4 nights a week - trust me it gets brutal.
How many times have you seen players start off on fire, only to have nothing in the tank come February (think Phil Thomasson as a recent example).
Still don't believe me?
Then how about these guys.
Len Elmore during yesterdays game regarding GS -"He has some nice move and his footwork is good, but he just doesn't have the upper body strength to compete."
Gregg Marshall - "That was the most physical game I have seen in 24 years."
A year in KR's School of Physical Development and Maturation would not only do wonders physically, but also prepare him to handle 40 games of literally beating the hell out of you.
The staff knew it was going to be an issue. It was obvious. Why do you think they had him on campus with KR back in March?
We've already debated the luxury of bodies on board. So GM goes with what he has. 8)Above all, make the right call.

There is no reason why we should act like we cannot get another Stutz and we should hold onto this kid as long as we can. I fully expect to be upgrading to signing top 20 centers instead of top 40 in the next couple years.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO MORE SACRIFICE (throwaway) YEARS LEFT. We play now and we win now...

Whether he should have or not is a moot point, we needed him too badly to even consider it.
Who is the 'Big Man's' coach? Do they have the experience to bring Stutz along at a quickened pace? We need Stutz to be a dominating force on our team.
Granted, maybe, we might get a big man rated in the top 20, but it would be the exception and not the rule for a Mid Major team. Recruiting will follow pretty much like past patterns, but could improve some, if HCGM helps raise the program up on a National basis. Currently, Creighton and SIU seem to be the only MVC teams able to snag a top rated recruit now and then.
Our team this year could have benefitted greatly with Orukpe, as he seems to be a dominanting defensive force, while Stutz seems to be the polar opposite and more of an offensive threat.

Is it wrong that I still dream of an X or Antoine or even Cliff on the staff? That couldn't hurt the development or even recruitment of big men. :DInfinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

No they haven't. But I believe AC has expressed some interest in the past. How serious it is/was I'm not positive.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
