Stutz should have redshirted

Would Garrett benefit from a redshirt? Of course....WHO WOULDN'T????


The question is are we a better team with Garrett or without Garrett this year? You can't honestly answer this question without saying we are a better team with him.

Perhaps next year or the year after we will have developed a team that has the luxury of redshirting a player or 2. That's how you build sustained success. We aren't there yet. We're going to cut our teeth on the field of battle.

I'll eat crow if he's a bust, but Garrett is going to be just fine in the Valley. By season's end, he will provide a tough matchup for most every team in our conference.

If EO could of stayed he would have redshirted not Garrett. This comes from a member of the staff in a private conversation. I watched EO all summer and he is a wonderfull athletic young man who at this point in his of his life has limited basketball skills and needs to redshirt more that GS.

If you didn't think this was true, information doesn't get any better than this......Garrett was NEVER going to redshirt.........not in this program, not now.....maybe at Kentucky.....not at WSU.

Part of Garrett's problem right now is that he doesn't elevate on his shots in the post. It doesn't take much for a moderately athletic 6'8" player to make up the height difference in a tenth of a second. He is going to have to get his moves done and shots up quicker or start elevating.

Quicker moves! He just takes too long to make his move. He's gotten the ball a couple of times today, then hesitates and the defender has too much time to decide and anticipate Garrett's next move.

It has to be a combination between confidence (and after playing against Monroe, who wouldn't have a bit of a confidence problem for a short bit) and just getting used to making quicker moves, which I think he'll get eventually with lots of practice.

Still--no need to redshirt. More need to develop him so that he can be ready sooner, rather than later.

Redshirting Stutz for this year is not even an issue and not practical. However, in cases where Ramon gets in foul trouble like today, will we see Stutz and Durley in the game much together?

I believe Paul had to redshirt because he broke his foot.

right right, I mean do you not remember how inconsistent and a step behind Miller looked his "redshirt" freshmen playing year which would have been his second season in college. He had some good games and some bad games. I don't know how many times I saw a nice dish in the lane go right thru his hands. He eventually developed though.

Point being he may not be another Paul Miller but 6 games into his true freshman year he looks no worse and personally hands wise he looks better. Give him time He will develop the strength needed.

After seeing Stutz get eaten alive against decent competition, I would have pushed for a redshirt.

Once Stutz starts playing up to his true height he'll start to become a nice weapon. He shoots the ball from the shoulder on some of his post moves instead of over his head. On defense, he seems to step back and bring his arms down instead of just standing with his arms straight up.

With that, I'm fine with him playing this year. There'll be some growing pains but his development will move that much faster.

Late in the game, he drop stepped and kiss the ball off the glass rather nicely.

Also, when he received the ball, he immediately made his move. I think it caught the defender by surprise. The defender looked startled.

I wish Garrett was more active on defense. Sometimes, he looks like he is walking in molasses.

One more item. I really liked it, when he took the ball near center court and dribbled to the basket with his left hand and scored. I liked it not so much that he scored, but because he had the confidence to make the move.

Wasn't he a guard before he grow those 6-7 inches. I remember someone saying he had decent ball handling skills for a 7 footer...since normally they don't even know what a dribble is LOL
