Let me see if I can say this in 2,500 words or less.

The only potential post players WSU has are Stutz and Durley. Can't RS the only possible backup.

Orukpe was WAY more likely to need a RS year than Stutz.

Next year WSU has to replace Clemente's rebounds. Stutz will learn what's needed to get boards by playing in games at a much quicker learning curve than in practices.

Stutz can learn a lot more by going up against Greg Monroe and getting a dose of humiliation than he can learn from going against Durley in practices.

If Stutz takes a shirt this year, then we have no backup post player and next year our only backup post player is a Fr. That's a great formula for blowing off 2 years in a row.

I don't think Marshall wants to risk his job on having Durley as the only post player this year and only having a Fr backup next year.

Lawmaker, we could have had Kendall Wright in here as a SG. We let Baylor have him as a wide receiver. Can't you just say thank you instead of starting threads that exhibit one of the lowest basketball IQs of all time?
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I'm still interested in seeing Stutz's freshman stats alongside PM's RS freshman stats.

I think Lawmaker should be permanently assigned those duties. I believe that Paul averaged 7 and 5 that year. Lawmaker, how about Stutz this far?

Let the youngster play. What will provide him with more desire to improve...facing 6'11" Monroe on national TV or 6'7" Clemente in practice?

While this is unlikely, I thought I would throw out the scenario....

If, for some reason, WSU decides to, we could use a redshirt on GS later in his career, and have him in the proverbial "we would be awesome in 4 years if Garrett was still with us."

And remember, if Paul Miller didn't break his foot his freshman year, he wouldn't have had a RS, either. Just turned out to be the lucky "break" for us 4 years later, but I don't think anybody at the time thought it was a blessing.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Dude have you seen the valley this year, if we end up a lower level team in the valley, then this program is in trouble

Stutz is the Man and even Kentucky was recruiting him. This is not North Carolina and Duke where we would have the luxury to redshirt him. He scored 9 each in his first 2 games and had 22 in another game. This very Season, Stutz with have some more solid games. Between JT and Stutz alternating at Center, we are hanging in there and matching up against some very good teams. WSU will not be 9th in the Valley this Season as some experts predict. We should end up some where around 3rd to 5th which will be a nice step forward from last year. By Stutz playing this year, he will be much more ready the next 3 years to be one of the 'cornerstone type players' that even Coach Marshall says he will be.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Not redshirting Stutz is not a waste and you will be eating those words by the end of the season. What Is waste is the last few minutes having to even think about this.

The term "we" is used rather liberally here.

If EO could of stayed he would have redshirted not Garrett. This comes from a member of the staff in a private conversation. I watched EO all summer and he is a wonderfull athletic young man who at this point in his of his life has limited basketball skills and needs to redshirt more that GS.

I'll be interested in seeing his offensive stats next year at 3 Rivers. From the few videos of him practicing it's questionable if he has any knowledge so far of how to put the ball in the basket when not wide open.

Redshirting him I think would be foolish. It's a long season, and anything can happen. Someone may go down with injury (as we saw last year) and then our depth will be severly effected with Stutz not available. Besides, he is starting. He will end up being fine--it will just take him time. I'll admit he got his butt handed to him against G-town, but Monroe was a 5 star, McDonald's All-American HS player, so comparing Garrett at this point to him is a bit silly. He also made some pretty big mistakes as often freshman do. He will be fine, and we'll see him mature as the season progresses. He's definately a work in progress. I'm just glad we have someone who would qualify for that, as we've not had a real center since Paul left over 2 seasons ago!

I believe Paul had to redshirt because he broke his foot.
Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

Perhaps 10 years from now, we can all talk about how lucky we were not to have been able to redshirt him; or, we can all discuss how much better off we would have been if he had taken a year to grow. Nobody knows right now, which is the wiser course. This season, it was never even an option, however. Now Kyles or Ellis on the other hand........

But then again if not for Kyles we would have lost by even more against Georgetown. And Ellis has done better in the tourney so far also.

I think since we are so young and have so many inconsistent players we need all of them so coach can throw them out and see who is able to step up on any given night. I think if we do well this year one of the keys will be that we have quality depth where the play doesn't drop off a whole lot when the bench comes in and any one of them have the capability of having a big night. Right now we don't have any stars that we can count on EVERY game (other than Ramon, but he can only do so much on offense) so we have to do it by committee.
