Guys--We've only played 7 games. SEVEN. Give the guy some slack! He'll learn. He's smart, he's eager, he's got a lot of the tools--it's only a matter of time.
Just my thoughts, but bottom line is... HE CAN'T REDSHIRT. That boat has sailed.
I think we're going to be pleased with his progress come Valley Tourney time. We get him 3 more years after this, which is a plus.

Jeez Louise. Come on! I know Stutz isn't looking very good. But the whole point is, whether or not one believes he is ready or not...WE HAVE NO CHOICE. He looked horrible tonight and still played significant minutes. So reguardless of whether you think he's ready or not. He's playing, he's doing alright. Leave it alone.Goo Shockers

I am worried about Garrett Stutz.
Some of the skills he is not exhibiting should have been learned during the summer games, preseason practices and already utilized during the seven games we have played. He is already six months into the program and is not showing the type of progress that the team needs.
I'm worried.

Physical deficiencies can be somewhat mitigated by smart play. Right now, everything is moving too fast for Garrett, but I have faith he'll start to piece it together in the coming months. I mean, we knew he wasn't a Greg Oden (phenom) type player to start out with, so why would we expect him to be dominating against stronger and more experienced players? He'll be ok...just give him time.
As for redshirting him...what other option do we have in the post? Durley, then who? Ramon needs to anchor the 4. Ellis and Gris were (are) injured to start the season...I'm just not seeing another option at the 5.

By redshiriting, GS would have had these same problems at the beginning of next year too. He can only learn the important things about game play in a GAME. He's learning. He appears to be doing fine. I am glad that he is getting to play against some of the bigger opponents right now. Cause once he gets to play against the guys that aren't like the Big School boys, he'll do just fine.
What he did against Georgetown, MSU, and Sienna can't be replicated in practice. He got to play against probably one of, if not, the best freshman big man in the country. Redshirting him would have cost him an opportunity to play against people that will only make him better.
Again, he'll be just fine.

Just to reiterate-
I wish he would have redshirted. He could have benefitted so much this year by just practicing with the team and then would have four more years of DI left.
He is going to be good-there is no doubt, but he could have used a year behind the scenes.
But I will echo an earlier post--This ship has sailed. Lets make the best of it and move on.

Garrett just needs to build up his fast twitch muscles.

When Garrett finds his confidence and poise, like Ananias reclaimed last night, he will be a load. Add in a little muscle development and he could be dominant next year.
Redshirts are nice when you can afford them but nothing speeds development like a year of real ball (if you are getting the minutes). Stutz will be ready to fly next year thanks to some real experience this year and will help us a great deal along the way.
It sounds crazy but we could very well have some big men soon (pre-loaded with "fast twitch muscle fibers") that will be competing heavily for GS's minutes over the next couple of years. HCGM has said that he will put the best players on the floor (unlike Turdge who will stick with his seniors to the death -see: Rob Kampman-OMG-The-Pain).
