The occasional use of the term is fine. The obsessive use of the term by Kansas fans is funny- and pathetic. I just don't want people getting sucked in. The term is a general reference to historically powerful teams. Nothing more, nothing less. There isn't even a hard criteria. That said, if you read phog.com, you will find blueblood has a whole different connotation. Over the edge, we are a blueblood, and we determine who gets in the club.

I've used the term, it's not a bad term, keeping it in perspective of the meaning. But several months ago, I got slapped in the face with how overused it is by Kansas fans. In fact, I posted pictures of me attending the KC-Oakland football game back in December. In the pucture, you can see my buddy and his KU alum son, along with guys from Omaha, Chicago and Naples, Fl. We all met for the game. During the tailgate, we were talking college basketball, the guy's son who is the KU alum probably used the term blueblood 50 times. Suddenly, the whole conversation turned. The son of the guy from Naples had enough of the bullshit and just started laying into the KU fan about "What's a blueblood, who are you to tell me who bluebloods are, why are you obsessed with bluebloods?" On and on and on! The dude absolutely owned and shamed the Kansas fan. It was awkward because everything else was great. That is when I started looking a little closer at the term blueblood and how it's used by Kansas fans. It really is a vague term and nobody, I mean nobody hangs onto it like Kansas fans. Check the other boards. When you compare and contrast other "blueblood" message boards, the overuse of the term is uniquely a Kansas thing.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

      I call it gloating.

      • Just a couple of examples of blue blood abuse by Kansas fans.

        • Fair point, and interesting story about your encounter with a silly fan. Just stop telling me to go to phog.com. I come to shockernet because I wanna hear and talk about WSU.

I remember screaming "when's baseball start!" At the end of the national anthem. I'm not proud of that. Oh the Thompson/Smithson era.

              Mad bro?

I personally put down KU because KU (as a university) is run by a-holes. For years and years. A-holes who then get govt jobs in Topeka and the Regents.

Stepping in via the Regents to try to prevent WSU from getting a PhD program (one that KU would be incapable of providing)? Declaring that it would weaken Kansas education? A-holes.

$6,000,000+ no bid contract to University of Kansas' Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation for our kids K-12 assessments that causes nothing but pain for students because it sucks so bad it has never ever actually worked? A-holes.

Flipping through sports radio and accidentally hitting a KU pre-game. Question was to a long time KU guy "Best memory of a specific KU player?" Ans: "He blew off team rules and partied all night. When coach asked why he wasn't back at curfew the answer was 'The club was lit!'and The Rug, the assistant coaches, the players all laughed". ... what a great memory of great ... a-holes.

Jackson smashing a woman's car and threatening to beat her. No consequences at all from The Rug ... a-holes.

KU fans treatment of Perry Ellis, KU fans attitude towards basically everyone not them, etc. ... well you may get my point.

I know it is stupid and petty to mock and point out all the problems of KU and it's fans. Because WSU people (staff, faculty, players, fans) have lots of problems too. But, it isn't "indicative of low confidence". It is just kind of nice to mock a-holes.

Embarrassed. It is embarrassing that WSU and it's fans have the reputation of obsessing over comparisons to KU. Even the head coaches son takes to twitter to compare WSU to KU. I get that the undergod mentality attracts a lot of people to WSU. Unfortunately for many that means being negative about a bigger program rather than staying positive about our success.

Both schools absolutely hate each other. You'll see many threads about us on their board often as well. It's just the nature of the rivalry, if you can call it that.

Don't talk about not making comparisons and then make comparisons.

                      Eyes of the beholder.

KU is on a long list of about 350 other schools that can suck it. I hope they all lose every game.

                      • I don't think there has ever been a time when there wasn't a Wichita State topic on the first page of threads on the basketball forum of phog.net. But we are the ones that are obsessed with them.

Gloating embarrasses you? What about when Chicken fans do it, like the 2nd half of the Purdue game, and beyond, oh, for about the next 48 hours?

Or how about when a Shocker fan says to a Chicken fan "Our program is as good as yours is now!" Then watch said Chickens start ranting about the Valley. No?

I can remain very positive regarding our success and relish in any failure of KU's. Perhaps you've never had to sit at a table full of chickens and explain to them that we're DI.

Yes. And clearly it isn't to you. The idea of approaching a KU fans saying that your better is the indication I am talking about. Why do that?
