Didn't we just shut them out 8-0 last night?

Seriously though, we play them in basically every sport we can ... except men's basketball. I understand the "risks" associated with branding and playing the sport that makes your school brand (men's basketball for both of us).

People mention the discount store t-shirt fans. It's the State of Kansas t-shirt fans age 0 to 18 that WSU/KU/K-State are fighting for. And just 50 high school seniors are worth about $1,000,000 a year. If branding money wasn't involved (like it isn't for all the other sports) we would play.

But, marketing/money *is* important, so we will not play each other until that changes.

I really don't.

I also think "Chickenhawk" is a stupid insult. It sounds like a 3rd grader made it up. "Beakers" is probably better. Rolls off the tongue easier.
      This guy disagrees:

I've done a lot of research on Bleeding Kansas for projects I had to do while in school. The majority of anti-slavery settlers were anti-slavery because they did not want blacks in the territory and eventually state due to racist and bigoted views of blacks. I guess you could call that the moral high ground, but by a small margin. Jayhawkers did the same to border ruffian strongholds and towns as well.

Either way, I'm not a fan Quantrill's Raiders, I was just trying to convey my dislike for Lawrence but could have done it a better way. It was stupid. If I've caused offense to you or anybody else, my sincerest apologies for this and getting off topic.

That's a great tidbit. I did not know that.

No offense was taken; I just thought it wasn't a great way to make your point that you don't like Lawrence. No worries.

            • On the first day of classes each semester, I lecture my students on the importance of supporting YOUR school. Why loyalty to YOUR alma mater should be unwavering, and how involvement in student activities (including attending sporting events) helps to foster a sense of pride in the University. As an alumnus myself, I then speak about my hatred for the chickens and the vast majority of their fans. On exams, when I do make extra credit points available, I typically ask students to answer some stupid question along the lines of "Why is ku the worst?" It’s all in good fun and tends to get a laugh (except from the couple of students wearing ku gear).

Additionally, my GTA is a ku alum. I remind him regularly of just how lucky he is that a WSU alum took pity and hired him. And that if not for me, he’d still be doing exactly what his undergraduate degree prepared him to do…compete with high school kids for low level part-time work in the food service industry.
That rug really tied the room together.

Imagine being Catholic and thus fancying yourself as a Bishop Carroll fan. For whatever reason though, you aren't able to actually go to school there, so you actually go to West High. You still always talk about how Bishop Carroll is such a awesome place and that these West High people are white trash...certainly not like the wonderful classy superior people like yourself who like Bishop Carroll.

                Pretty ridiculous uppity behavior, right?

                Change:
                -"Catholic" to "basketball fan"
                -"Bishop Carroll" to "KU"
                -"West High" to "WSU"
                Ummm...ok?

It's funny they're even considered blue blood. You had the guy that invented basketball start it all there? Yeah, I'd hope you'd have some titles. You would think they'd have more than than UK and UCLA.

The thought of Quantrill's Raiders burning down their fruity little town makes me smile, but the need to play them is setting the bar low.
Just a couple of things... Can we lose the term blueblood already? It's a meaningless, Dick Vitale made up word. Sure, we all know what it means, but who is a blueblood? Indiana? UCLA? Is UConn? What about Florida? Furthermore, Kansas fans throw the term out more than anyone, seriously. Go check the boards. You will sometimes hear the word uttered on Kentucky's, Duke's and NC's boards, but nothing like on the phog. Those guys throw the term around like there is some set criteria for blueblood and they are the official "Keepers of the Blueblood List!" After the Jayhawks lost this year, there were no fewer than three "Official" blueblood threads, including who counts as a blueblood and ranking the bluebloods. If Shockerfever weren't on a temporary vacation, he would agree that the Jayhawks obsession with the term blueblood borders on insecurity. Seriously, nowhere outside of the Kansas fanbase does the term blueblood get bantered about to any degree. Please, just don't use the term.

And James Naismith might have invented the game, but he was,a crappy coach.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I don't want to cause any trouble, but this is petty, stupid, and indicative of low confidence. Putting down KU should not equate to supporting WSU. Supporting WSU should be free of comparing itself to KU. You waste class time and student tuition on force feeding anti-KU, pro WSU fandom rhetoric. I'm sure your harassment of your GTA is all in good fun, but your confidence in belittling him is stupid. The little brother attitude WSU > KU is stupid.

HCGM used the term blue bloods. I don't think you'd be complaining about the term if KU fans didn't use it. This is getting stupid. Just be comfortable being a WSU fan and stop worrying about KU.

This board constantly talking about KU isn't just bordering, it is knee deep in insecurity.

Too many people let it slide but I didn't. Since the game two years ago, you don't see it much and with the recent ammo from The Shockers backing up anything said, shame on anyone who lets it slide.
If you will step back in darker times during the 90s and just imagine the campus scene and what students were wearing. If you were a student during that era and regularly attended games you were in the vast minority.

I agree, it is a stupid term and I'm disappointed I used it lol. I will do my part in feeding the ego pretentious snobs by using it anymore.

The obvious trama students of the 90s must feel is felt in what you write. That was definitely a lost era in WSU basketball history. :)

Plenty of good bench seats available. Paraphrasing "The Wire,"

                                Also the clothes were terrible.
