Not sure if this game rises to the level of a Super Bowl game for the Shocks but it is certainly a very important game. A loss at home to a short-handed Illinois State team would obviously hurt the Shocks at-large chances more than a Redbird loss will hurt them.

Now if the Shocks and the Redbirds meet up again on Sunday in St. Louis then yes, we may have a Super Bowl on our hands or at least a Conference Title game.

It is time that the Shocks show they can step up to the plate when they are on the court with a quality opponent. No doubt McIntosh's absence is a big hit to Illinois State but they are stil plenty tough.

Arguably the Shocks are dealing won't be at full strength either with Austin's status unknown and with Darral and Daishon somewhat MIA in recent games. Daishon showed some brief glimpes of snapping out of it against Drake. Darral needs to find that next gear between now and Saturday evening.

If the Shocks can match the Redbird's defensive intensity and effort I think they will be in good shape as long as their offense doesn't totally take the night off. We don't need a great game from any of our players but we need everyone to play sound fundamental, smart basketball. If there is a game where 3G may try to shorten his bench it might be this one. If that's the case hopefully the game flow cooperates if that is the plan.

I really hope some of the sign/chant ideas make it down to the student section. Some real good ones here. This game is filled with low-hanging fruit. No one else has a basketball program as criminally-driven and embarrassing as this one, so plenty of opportunities to make them feel good about it. Stick it to these douches.

I'm really curious how much they will fall off next year. Lee and Hawkins are really important parts to their team, but a few of their younger guys have looked good. Fayne and Evans looks to be very good players. I don't know if they will struggle once people are focusing on them rather than focused on Lee and Hawkins though. I'd like for them to remain strong since no one else in our league has been able to maintain consistency (UNI included) and no one really seems to be recruiting at a level to maintain success. Loyola has potential, but needs a lot more consistency for them to count.
