    • We had a kid on our football team some years back. His shoulder would dislocate two or three times a game. Tough kid, but he may not be able to wipe his own butt when he's 30.

        • OK, RoyalShock, I have a question.

It seems like there's selective banning going on, here. My question and concern regards MoValleyJohn, our resident troll:

Thank you for participating on ShockerNet! The following guidelines will help ensure that everyone's experience here will be positive. Please read them carefully.

By registering to post on this forum you acknowledge and accept all rules of participation as outlined below. If you don't agree with the guidelines, please don't post.

This forum is for fans of Wichita State University to discuss Shocker sports. It is family-friendly and so all participants are asked to conduct themselves with class. Profanity or vulgar slang will not be tolerated (whether your kids hear it at home or not). Words whose key characters have been replaced with $, _, @, etc. may get by the profanity filter, but they won't get by our staff.

ShockerNet staff reserves the right to edit or delete posts at their discretion! Posts should not contain any of the following content:

          - Profanity or vulgarities (dust off the dictionary and find a better word)
          - Flames
          - Constant or unconstructive criticism of WSU, the coaches, or players
          - Personal insults, name-calling or attacks of other posters
          - Criticism of forum staff (see below for how to register a complaint)
          - Unsubstantiated rumors about players, coaches, or staff that are defamatory in nature
          - Off-topic posts not in the Off-topic forum
          - Topic "hi-jacking"
          - Multiple, identical posts
          - Material that may be construed as offensive, whether or not it is on-topic
          - Commercial or "classified" advertising, or other forms of SPAM.
          - Hoaxes or other intentional forms of deception. (Subject to interpretation by forum staff.)

Accounts and Usernames: Registering multiple accounts is strictly prohibited. If you are suspected of doing this, all but one will be deleted. If this is attempted more than once, a ban may be issued. All usernames must follow the post content rules stated above. Inappropriate usernames will be deleted without warning.

More about players: Discussion of players should be limited to their performance on court. Reports of players leaving the program are prohibited. Exceptions are granted only if the subject has been reported in the media or released by the WSU athletic department. Saying "_____ sucks" is not considered constructive criticism and will result in the post being removed.

More about coaches: There will be times where rumors of coaches leaving will occur. Please do not post subjective information that may or may not infer a coach is leaving. ShockerNet staff will deal with such postings on a case-by-case basis. If staff determines it is not reliable or directly pertinent, it will be subject to deletion.

Personal Information of WSU representatives: Personal information about coaches, players, player's family, or other WSU representatives are strictly prohibited.

Other personal information: Posting of personal information about anyone other than yourself is also strictly prohibited. Violating this rule will most likely result in an immediate loss of posting priviledges (ban). Post information about yourself only at your own risk. ShockerNet will fully cooperate with legal authorities if the actions of any member lead to unlawful conduct.

Content from other sites: It is illegal to post content from a subscription-based website, such as ESPN Insider, on other websites. This cannot and will not be allowed here. Additionally, posting full articles from any other site is a potential copyright infringement. You may post only an excerpt from the article and a link to the article's source.

"Shocker" hand signal: This topic has been discussed to death and the result is always the same. Any topic is started or turns into discussion of this subject will be closed or deleted. Images that depict it or insinuate it will be removed from any post, avatar, or signature.

Posts that violate these guidelines are subject to deletion or editing by ShockerNet staff. As with any forum of this nature, there will be some subjectivity when determining whether guidelines have been violated. If your post gets edited or deleted, do not get upset with the moderators. They are human and it is not personal. If you deem it necessary to log a complaint about actions of ShockerNet staff, please send a Private Message to the administrator (RoyalShock).

Users who repeatedly violate these guidelines will be subject to loss of posting privileges either temporarily or permanently, depending on the degree of violation.

This is not a government-run forum, nor does it receive any public funds. As such your 1st Amendment rights are not protected here. Cries of censorship will fall on deaf ears. If you're looking for an internet pulpit, you are free to start your own website.

A note to students: It is great to have you on ShockerNet! However, as many of you probably use a different vernacular when communicating with fellow students than most members of this site, please consider that the "make-up" of the ShockerNet community includes people of many different ages, from pre-teens to senior citizens. Please pay special attention to the unacceptible items listed above. Thank you.

A note to fans of other schools: This is a forum for Wichita State fans. You are a guest here and should conduct yourselves accordingly.

Please keep off-topic discussion in the off-topic area. On-topic threads that get "hi-jacked" may be split and moved to the off-topic forum.

Please do not conduct personal discussions in the forums. The Private Messaging system works well for this.

Thank you and enjoy your time on ShockerNet!

I think KC Shock's posts have been inflammatory and unacceptable from the beginning and I am happy you have banned him, but why do we continue to have to tolerate the troll I'm complaining about posting off-topic material on many of these threads without any protests from ANY of the moderators. His off-topic posts about hunting and guns should be removed from any threads they're posted on (unless he wants to set up a thread like 'my new gun' or 'what I killed on my vacation'.

          • Interesting approach - going off-topic to complain about posters going off-topic.

I copied the quote from a post earlier, so if you're going to criticize someone for going off topic, you might want to start at the person who made the TOS post. I merely copied it.

I would be most happy to accept any suggestions regards the thread placement of this item, but I think it fits well in here, as it was reproduced to document how KC had violated it. I'm just presenting an alternative opinion about people posting off-topic in these threads.

Now, since I would REALLY like to hear what Reaves prognosis is, I would like for the local folks in Wichita to keep any medical updates coming, as I am hoping he won't miss much time. He looks to have more potential than all of our other guards and he plays well beyond his years.

                • We have learned from this that Reaves is a lot tougher than we may have thought, and that he's got a lot of heart and fight. He's got a lot of VanVleet's attitude. That's a good thing. Too bad we don't seem to have any upper class guys with that type of attitude.

                  • I hope they take the long view with Austin. If he can continue to play this year without a significant risk to his basketball future as a Shocker and beyond then fine and dandy. We can sure use him.

However, I would rather have him as healthy as possible for the next 3 or 4 years than to jeapordize that in any signficant way for whatever he can give us this year. What level of risk would be acceptable I can't say. Nor do I know, if he did qualify for a medical redshirt, whether rehabbing the shoulder between now and next fall would yield any significant reduction in risk for Austin.

I am confident that whatever decisions are made will be in Austin's best interest. Sounds like he will probably be back this year unless someone can convince the decision-makers on this that an extended rehab would yield signficant risk reduction. If he is back I'll just have to continue to hold my breath everytime Austin mixes it up which will be quite often from what I have seen of him.

Agreed, although it may be a case of "those shoulders only have X number of games left in them regardless." Those that are best able to make those calls will be involved in the decision making. It presents some tough choices.

                        1972,
Spot on and couldn't agree more. I would like to see them take a slow, cautious approach.

However, get the feeling this kid is that one of a kind breed you just can't keep off the floor.
He seems like the type to gnaw the rope that holds him or chew the bars off the cage he is in to get back out there.

Basically, he is Wessel Part II, with a lot more talent.

He is HCGM's kind of kid and would take 12 more just like him in an instant.

                        That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

                        • Just wishing that everything concerning Austin's future works out to be the very best thing for this extremely gutsy and talented young man, with everything else being secondary.

                          • It was a known condition before he stepped foot on campus. It has happened once already this season. Normally he would have put it back an and gone back into the game.
Those are the facts. That is what we know. Based on that, I'd say we see him back as good as ever against our next DI opponent.
Also, this is why WSU pays Kerry. I would venture to guess that next summer is the first sports break with healthy shoulders that Austin has had in a long time. Let him get some quality work in with a world class trainer and the extra muscle should help him keep his shoulders in socket.

                            • If i don't have this correct, someone please correct me.

To gain a medical redshirt, an athlete cannot compete in more than 30 percent of their team’s games within a season, not counting contests officially designated as scrimmages or exhibition games. When such computations are made, fractions are rounded up. For example, if the Shockers play 31 games this season, the exact 30 percent mark is 9.3. For the purposes of medical redshirt eligibility, therefore, Austin Reaves may compete in ten (10) games and still be eligible for a medical redshirt. He has played in seven (7) games, so he may participate in three (3) more games before a final decision would have to be made.

I think that is correct and I think you still have to apply for the medical hardship waiver that provides a documented medical basis for holding the player out. If he comes back and plays without incident I would fully expect he will conitnue on. If he is re-injured within the threshold of games then who knows. My hope would be if he comes back he can escape re-injury for the remainder of the season although that might be wishful thinking. As @ShockRef noted Austin doesn't seem to be pre-disposed to sitting out.

My guess is that with the history of last summer's surgery and two dislocations since then that a documented medical basis would not be that difficult.

He won't be needed against Southern Nazarene but that doesn't mean he won't play if his MRI and his evaluation goes well.
