That said, Barney red-shirtting last year seemed all kinds of weird. He already had a year at sunrise, and...you know...he's a walk-on. Are we limited to the number of walk-ons we can have? Or spots on the bench?
Another point is that I don't see any Freshman walk-ons getting meaningful minutes.

I sat beside Barney and his parents at WSU games for 3 years. Barney taking a RS is probably his hoping that an extra year might get him some additional physical maturity and get him some extra minutes.
I'd rather expect that he thinks an extra year might give him an additional opportunity to learn from Marshall. Barney's future is more likely to have coaching implications than NBA implications. I wouldn't be surprised to see Barney take an extra year after he's out of eligibility to pursue a sports administraion master's degree and become a grad assistant somewhere. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Just a few examples of Shocker Madness performances that didn't translate into regular season performances: Kyles was a sure All-Valley pick coming out of every Shocker Madness. Nurger was a strong post player who could stroke 3's like a guard in his single SM appearance. Barney had some good moves, a nice shooting stroke, and shooting range at SM. His foot speed and quickness was not challenged.
Also, I have very different recollection of David Kyles and Nurgers SM appearances.

Did anyone hear Paul Suellentrop on with Bob and Jeff (The Drive) yesterday afternoon. He was talking about basketball and he mentioned some things about this years team practicing. I heard him mention Conner but didn't hear everything. Can anyone who heard, paraphrase what he said about our players?

-He has no idea how Steven Solomon will figure into the mix and WSU can't comment on him yet. He has no reason to think he will be a big part of next year's team but again, he doesn't know if he'll be a practice player, someone they think can contribute down the road, or somewhere in between.
-Jeff asked if, on May 4, he can see any single player getting 30 minutes at the PG position or will it be mix and match? At this point Paul thinks it will be mix and match but he spoke to a person close to the program who said that Frankamp has looked good, more assertive in spring practices.
-They talked for a while about the CBS sports article about the Mountain West. Paul thinks they'll stay in the MVC most likely. They will need 1 or 2 more shakeups for an opportunity to arise. The comments by Big 12 commish could start one of those shake ups. It is likely easier to change conferences than it is to start football. Bob and Jeff argued back and forth about the plausibility of joining the Big East.
