    • Well one thing that we can all agree with. The one constant that we have coming back that gives me confidence is Gregg Marshall

Can't agree more... all the talent in the world means nothing if it's not coached properly (IE Ben Simmons). Give me a 4 star recruit that wants to learn and succeed over 5 star top recruits any day.

        • Ok, I'll play. The future as I see it in 2016-2017:
          1. Austin Reaves goes to Sunrise, but only to shoot around in the gym. However, he does take a medical redshirt next season.
          2. Ty Taylor is off to a nearby juco. We've seen it over... and over ... and over ... and over again. Perimeter players get 1 year on the court to prove to Coach that they can hack it in his program.
          3. Shaq still struggles with consistency but gets it going about midway through the Valley season instead of close to the end like this year.
          4. Juco guys don't start but they get lots of pt to show what they can do.
          5. Prior to the season, Frankamp finds a foreign object embedded in a poorly lit, sensitive part of his body, removes it and suddenly becomes a much more relaxed, confident and active player.
          6. We regularly play a lineup with 5 perimeter players. We never miss a shot but fans on Shockernet complain that our lack of a true 4 man is the reason why our offensive rebound numbers are down.
          7. Gregg Marshall is the head coach. After the season, he is mentioned with every job that opens up but once again, he remains the head coach at WSU.
          8. We do not win the national championship.
          9. In spite of another strong season that gets us into the 2nd weekend of the tournament and the return of several key players, many fans believe the program can only be saved by the incoming 2017 recruits.
          10. Thankfully, we are not Drake.

Good stuff. Agree completely especially #1, #6 and #9

#1 doesn't make any sense unless you also plan for Reaves to take another redshirt a different year. If he is not taking a second redshirt a different year, there would be no need to go through the process of applying for a hardship.

Pretty sure he just meant a redshirt

                • I don't believe you can have a medical redshirt unless you use eligibility in qualifying games and then are injured prior to hitting the 30% of games threshold. If you don't play you just have a standard, plain vanilla redshirt. If injured early in the next 4 years you could still qualify for a medical redshirt subject to application to and approval by the NCAA.

Not sure Austin's injury and surgery will prevent him from playing next year.

                    I like that lineup.

It's just amazing how deep our talent is now. This doesn't even mention CJ, Austin or Eric. Dang! I really hope Eric figures it out. He's such a stud athlete.

                      • I wonder if people who are thinking next year will be better are forgetting just how consistent this year's team was. They never had nights (when Fred was healthy) where they were really off. Sometimes the offense would be off, but the defense always kept them in the games.

Next year, on nights when everything is going the Shocks way, it is possible they could be a little better. Unfortunately, that will not happen very often. An average night for next year's team will probably not be as good. When next year's team has a bad night, it will not be a fun night to watch.

On second thought, even on their good nights, they won't be as good. I think we have forgotten how good this team was at times eariler in the season.

                        • Here are some stats from the past that I found interesting. When speaking of possible place in shocker history. The amount of free throws shot is amazing. I sure miss that NBA guy.Fred and Ron were young sophomores, and obviously the mainstays of the 2016 offense. But they actually shot less free throws this year than they did in 2014. I heard the new rules were going to prohibit the defense from preventing your freedom of movement? To be fair it was close and Fred would have surpassed his total if he were healthy all year.

                          Name PPG Min FTM-FTA
                          Cleanthony Early 16.4 27.4 151-179
                          Evan Wessel 3.7 22 7-15
                          Rashard Kelly 4.3 16.1 30-49
Shamet went to the free throw line 12 times in 3 games

                          Sophomore Year
                          Ron Baker 13.1 29.9 112-133
                          Fred VanVleet 11.6 31.7 112-135

Particularly with a deep bench, I think a lot of meaningful, continuous player movement is a good thing. Was it Tatum that use to drive us crazy as Shocker fans? I actually enjoyed (well, maybe appreciate is a better word) him running all around the half court with multiple picks being set, him and the ball arrive at a certain spot at the same time for an open 2 pointer.

We had a game here this year where we ran a fast pace ball movement that worked like a charm. Interestingly, Fred was on the bench at the time and it was Baker and Frankamp running the show. Does someone remember what game it was? I'd like to find a replay of it to see if I have the same impression of it on video as I did in person.
was it drake? certainly, the game at siu was a beautiful thing to watch.. spurs-like ball movement. the shockers did that for a stretch of games, around midseason, and then it just kind of petered out. what happened?

                            • There is hardly any information about Peyton on the web. There is one story, which is repeated endlessly.

Im not sure I can remember the last time a Gregg Marshall coached Shocker team let its offensive performance affect its effort on the defensive end.

I said I have no expectations about the team next year. That wasn't entirely accurate. I expect that they will play hard and compete every game. Might not win them all but it won't be for lack of effort. That's another big reason why WSU has been so successful under Marshall. That and we've had great players like Stutz, Murry, Cle, Carl, Tekele, Ron, Fred, the list goes on and on.

Clevin, Joe, Malcom, Fred, Toure. If there's one thing we've always had its great PG play. Until I see otherwise I'll assume that trend will continue next year.
