  • Not really. What position would you play him in if he grew a couple of inches and gained weight? I noted that Sabonis (Gonzaga) plays out at the perimeter at times, we have Nurger, who plays at center out on the perimeter at times. It's not totally crazy. Perhaps PF might be a better position for him if he grows and gains weight, but why play him at SF if he gains weight and grows?

We had a 6'5" PF starter last year. Why couldn't he play inside. If he grows 2" he'd be more like 6' 11". Wouldn't you rather see him under the basket than out on the perimeter if he grew that much?

I'd like to see your suggestions. Also note that if he doesn't grow any more, I think he would be good at the SF position where he is now.

    • If he grows to 6'11" and gains 15-20 pounds without losing any of his speed, he will be a bigger, more athletic Cle at the stretch 4. That's pretty freaking scary if you're a WSU opponent. He's already a nightmare matchup without any of that growth.

Will growing two inches help or hurt his chances of adding bulk? I'm sure he's going to be stronger next year regardless.

Good point and none of us know. I was 5' 6" tall and weighed 110 pounds when I was 18. I ended up 5' 11" and was 170 (with 4% bodyfat) at my peak. When I quit spending two or three hours a day working out, my weight ended up about 220.

Short answer is that it depends on his build. My genetics caused me to end up pretty bulky in the neck and shoulders (I have a size 19 neck and have never been below 17-1/2), His genetics may end up that he's slim (sure wish I would have ended up that way), but there's no way to tell that now, as I can attest you can both grow and bulk up a lot from the ages of 18 to 22.

          • Catagorize Markis by number if you want. I think he will ultimately play both inside and out and likely be the most versatile and skilled big man we have seen in many a year. Methinks Gregg Marshall will find many ways to utilize his talent. This is a kid that's willing to play dive on the floor defense, help bring the ball up against presses, find open teammates and study the departing seniors and their art of leadership. I like this kid.

              • Trust me this McDuffie kid will be one of the best shockers of all-time. He is just getting started.

While I'm really excited to see Keyser and Reaves, and I know Hamilton is extremely gifted, McDuffie and Shamet have already demonstrated that they are capable of contributing at a high level in D-1. I hope the others mentioned demonstrate those same skills.

                    • Regarding Hamilton, I just hope he doesn't get frustrated and give up. He has tremendous physical skills but also has a lot of competition at his position. He should've taken a redshirt, which he decllined last year. That says something about his personaility. Maybe he learned something from it, but I have no idea what he's thinking. This coming year, i would like tpo see him take that reshirt. I would love to see him be patient and be a star player as a junior and senior.

My guess is part of the reason he didn't take a redshirt was that he already had a year at Sunrise.

I think Marshall's a straight shooter on this point. I only have one thing to base it on though, which is Jamie Dixon's comments after we beat Pitt in the 2013 tournament - something along the lines of "they were every bit as big as they were listed, which isn't something you always see with mid majors".

                            • FVV and RB level of play exploded from their freshman to sophomore years. This year's sophomores demonstrated no increase whatsoever from their freshman to sophomore years, sans Shaq, who had marginal improvement. Now that FVV is gone and won't be around to guide, encourage and tutor Shaq, it will be interesting to see how Shaq develops on his own. These sophomores need to step up in a big, big way next season.

Is it too much to ask Rauno to become our version of Kyle Wiltjer? There' both 6'10" but Rauno weighs 6 more pounds.

You heard it here first, I predict Ty Taylor will evolve to be our version of Jason 'White Chocolate' Williams - in terms of game of course. Unleash the beast GM, he just needs the confidence.
