Like a lot of others on here, I think this game we'll need to shoot better from 3. I'm not saying 3 pointers win the game, I still wanna see us pound it inside and let Shaq go to work. But something like 3/20 probably won't get it done. Just keep up that suffocating defense and make 'em sweat!

Yes, but maybe you will be crying tears of joy after WSU's last game.

Miami 59 -because nobody scores 60 on the Shox (except MSU who gave up an equal number of dunks)
-Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind-

          GO SHOX!

I just looked at the Miami - Buffalo box score and noticed that as well. So despite the Shockers playing their 3rd game in 5 days they would appear to have an advantage in depth.

Here are the 6 players that played the bulk of the minutes against Buffalo:

            G - Sheldon McClellan 6-5, 200 RSr - 15.9 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 50% FG/38.6% 3Pt/84.2% FT (38 minutes vs Buffalo)
            G - Angel Rodriguez 5-11, 185 RSR - 12.1 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 42.8%/32.1%/79.5% (35 minutes)
            G - Davon Reed 6-6, 210 Jr - 11.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 46.6%/37.9%/81.2% (39 minutes)
            G - Ja'Quan Newton 6-2, 180 So - 11.1 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 47.1%/34.6%/73.4% (26 minutes)
            C - Tony Jekiri 7-0, 248 Sr - 7.9PPG, 8.8 RPG, 52.8%/0.0%/59.7% (16 minutes)
            F - Kamari Murphy 6-8, 220 RJr - 5.7 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 49.7%/0.0%/57.1% (33 minutes)

On paper it kind of looks like Rodgriguez and McClellan are mirror images of Fred and Ron. It is very possible those 4 guards will play to a standstill and the game will be determined by which supporting cast plays better.

Those are also the players who played the bulk of the minutes for the season. I think if we get a big game from McDuffie it could be the difference maker, as I agree, the guards look very similar, the center doesn't score as a first option and is probably not as good as Poetl (or some of the other bigs we have faced this year, including Tarczewski). McDuffie and Zach Brown could potentially pose matchup difficulties for Miami. Brown for his defense and McDuffie for his long arms and athleticism, as it looks like they start at least 3 guards and a center (based on minutes).

Agreed. Ja'Quan Newton generally is the 6th man for this team with the other 5 games starting the great majority of Miami's games.

For the season, both Miami and WSU go 9 deep (WSU now 10 with Nurger) they just do it a little different.

WSU plays 2 players 30+, the others 15-20 mpg.

Miami prefers to play 6 over 20 minutes with the other 3 playing most every game, just 12-14 minutes. One of those three, Uceda, is 6'10" and shoots .453 from 3 (39-86) could make for an interesting match-up. Another, Lawrence 6'7", also shoots well from 3 at .436 (17-39) and .512 overall. Rodriguez, Reed, and particularly Jekiri are more foul prone.

Other than if they get in foul trouble, I think I'd like them just playing 6.

I wonder if we're putting too much stock into the game time. If our guys get two nights of good sleep, they should be fine. They have a one day turnaround when they play in St. Louis.

That being said, I still feel we should be in the late game.

For whatever reason that is essentially what Miami did against Buffalo. Lawrence played 9 minutes missing the only shot he took. He had no rebounds, 1 block, 1 turnover and 1 foul. Cruz Uceda played less then 1 minute with only 1 foul populating his stat line. Jeff Palmer, a 6-5 So guard, played 4 minutes and contributed 1 rebound.

I don't know if Larranaga is a coach who likes to shorten his bench in big games or why he used his bench so sparingly against Buffalo. Maybe he lacked confidence in his bench in a somewhat tight game.

It's not disrespectful to predict a 1-point win over a talented three seed. I would love a win by any margin.
