Random thoughts and predictions:
Based only on what I saw last time and in a couple other games, Whitehead is a helluva player. We need to throw a rotation of guys to jam him and never let him get comfortable.
The only thing I like more than MM right now is what he's going to be, but he is not one of the guys. And I hope it isn't Ron either - we need him fresh on O. Hopefully some guys step up.
CF has a lot to offer - tight handle, ability to waterbug the gaps and evade pressure, and I won't be redundant with the shooting. But it would be nice if he realized just how much he can affect each possession with those skills, preferably by osmosis from Ron and Fred. I predict he'll start to feel it in his first road game and be a little more comfortable without the eyeballs on him. 14 minutes, 2-3 from 3 (4/5 if there's a zone), throw in a couple steals.
Shaq starts eyeballing the growing contribution of Nurger/Bush and lays down a 14-8-2 block effort.
Fred ain't 100 percent, but after a week of rest and treatment he'll be closer to 100 than 85. I can't shake the feeling that sooner or later, especially with CF in the mix, we're going to see some crazy ass stat line from him where he has more steals than points AND drops 12 dimes. Why not now?
The jump ball toss at the start of the Utah game was the worst I've ever seen, and keep in mind that I reffed intramurals in college and coached middle school age for many years.
Ron Motherscratchin' Baker is due for a lights out performance from downtown. I'll say 6-8 from 3.
I get it and I understand that everybody's got to know the sets, but I miss the controlled explosion that is Eric Hamilton.
I am cautiously optimistic that Nurger's career with us might have been saved by Anton's tragic accident. I see him doing a lot of stuff that I don't recall Paul Miller doing as a Sophomore.
I hope I'm wrong about T4 getting shut out for the same reasons Demetric used to. Lotta motor on that kid.
I'm still chaining myself to the prediction that Evan starts every game this year barring injury. Anybody who hated playing pickup with the old (30s) guys when they were 20 know why.
Every time we play the Hall I can't help but remember one time I called for a switch on a screen and found myself guarding Adrian Griffin on the wing. Very softly as he faced up - so soft the refs and my teammates couldn't hear - I hear him say "I'm gonna take you to school, boy - what do you think about that?"
Is Marshall off the hot seat yet? I just want to know so I can return the gas truck full of common sense I was ready to dump into the Wichita water supply last week.
PJ Carlesimo, Terry Dehere, and Adrian Griffin - 56
PJ Cousinard, Terry Benton, and Joe Griffin - 71
PS - I distinctly remember thinking "Oh $#!t is what I think about that", keeping my mouth shut so as not to antagonize him, and fighting through every ball screen I ever played against East after that. Regardless of that fact, it didn't turn out well for old Good News that night. At least I made the highlight reel for the local news...
Onward and upward. Long season ahead.
