One of the reasons KU keeps racking up 'quality losses' is that in losing, they are handing out RPI and kenPom bumps like candy. What would Evansville's numbers look like if they had won by 20 yesterday?

I say win everything. Do that, and at the end everyone else can just suck it.
I'm sure that's true. Additionally, KenPom takes into consideration margin of victory, and Gregg rarely runs the score up. He tends to put in the walk-ons and young guys very early. If WSU is predicted to win by 10, it has to just crush the opponent to have any chance at going up.

I also like the fact that OSU lost to MSU as much as anyone. WSU>UNI>Iowa State>KU; WSU>MSU>OSU>KU; etc... I was just clarifying what I thought the intention of the post was, and that was that OSU is not a bottom 25 team.

I agree that OSU is not a bad team. But if that is the standard, then neither are half the teams in the Valley, which is a point that is never made.

That said... we obviously didn't lose by 20. If we had lost by 20, we wouldn't sniff the rankings again this season. There is obviously a double standard, but it isn't that persuasive to act like OSU is one of the worst teams in the country, it's not like KU got beat by 20 by Bradley.
OP implied nothing about OSU. Look at that post again.

Absolutely. And I said that I think there is a double standard, and it's important to talk about. But if our "evidence" for the double standard is the KU-OSU game and we exaggerate how bad OSU is, then no one takes us seriously. They say we have our facts wrong. OSU is not a good team. It is really bad to lose to OSU by 20. KU's close loss to TCU a couple years ago was so much worse in terms of quality of opponent. The treatment of KU after both losses indicates a double standard.

KU goes to Stoolwater and gets their doors blown off in a 1/2(maybe?) full gym and 'it's life on the road in the BIG 12!'

Nevermind the fact that they are basically the same quality of team according to KenPom.
            Don't disagree at all.

            • College basketball polls are not humankind's highest achievement. Let me just leave it at that.

I mean... the same poster has come back to this thread since then to say they were a terrible team and the only reason the numbers are comparable is because of the win over KU. You are right, the poster did not LITERALLY write that OSU was a worse team than Evansville. But if the original poster believed they were similar teams, his post could have just said "too bad we didn't lose by 20 to get a quality loss." The only reason the joke/post makes sense is if OSU is implied to be way worse than Evansville. But whatever, believe what you want.

                • For the record, I think OSU is a considerably worse team than Evansville. I know these common opponent things aren't that helpful, but Evansville boatraced MSU @MSU.

Hi, original poster here. I think Evansville is better than OSU, yes, but I didn't say anything about them being terrible. My joke/point wasn't about OSU it was about the difference in national perception of teams from different conferences and "quality losses" etc. I mean I feel like we can't have enough jokes about the concept of quality losses.

                    • Also an original poster here.

Just trying to point out that in the eyes of the lazy basketball fan/reporter...somehow a drubbing of Eville was just another easy opponent for WSU while KU has to maneuver through the gauntlet of the Big 12 and a 'brand name' of OSU.

Half of those voters had Duke on their ballots, lol. Another had Texas. Another had Valpo. I don't mind Valpo love, but do you think Valpo is better than Wichita State?
                          Deuces Valley.
                          ... No really, deuces.

                            • Watched KU UK and thought these are two of the sloppiest teams I seen. I must be seeing a different game than the AP voters
