I put this in the gregg marshall's future thread. Gonna put it here aldo in case some aren't reading that one

"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

It seems like the F4 run kind of kick started all this activity for the university. Immediately we saw higher student inquiries, now enrollment is up, construction taking place, etc. Having a president with the vision is a must, but it seems like things fell into place starting with basketball. I don't see the university and businesses with an interest let that be jeopardized by letting Marshall get away yet. I don't think $3m will be enough to do it, and I don't think he leaves the players he's got coming back. If he's looking for maybe ONE more move in his career, its not to Alabama or Tenn.

Exactly. The amount of money it would cost for WSU to guarantee that money alone couldn't lure him away is still chump change compared to what the University is shelling out on all of this growth to the school.

For example, how much does one "Shocker Hall" cost to build? Or how much does one "Innovation Campus" cost to build. It's no where near 5 million...from the other direction. If the school believes Marshall is an important piece in securing a successful prolonged season of growth, any offer from another college is very beatable even if it's a ridiculous number.

The "heavy hitters" won't have to eat ramen, but they do have to weigh their investments against a range of options? Would Levelle Moton or Chris Jans do well with equal facilities and support?
I haven't seen anything official but I remember hearing some large percentage increases in applications for enrollment after our final 4 and undefeated season. I think that heavily outweighs incremental salary increases for 3G.

Its not. They just need to generate attention for their articles.

Now we have a Gregg watch. If not a warning

In fact, one source said, "Bet the house and double down" that Barnes will not return.

The article lays out what we are up against every time a power conference team takes a run at Marshall. I think it is a bit ironic that Alabama all of a sudden decides to spend a chuck of change on a new coach after Auburn brings in Bruce Pearl. Why didn't they do it before? Coach will have to come up with that answer himself. Plus, is this really his dream destination? Also, there are a lot of numbers mentioned in the article, however, if the coach is seriously considering the offer the one that could be the most troubling to him might be the number 73.

The SEC commissionser is pushing all of the schools to plow their excess TV money into upgrading their basketball programs. Ben Howland is alo going to Ole Miss. It will be an arms race in the SEC...

                    and I agree on 73...

If HCGM leaves, it will be Texas.

This just in: HCGM to accept coaching jobs at Alabama, Texas, and St. John's. He says, "these were the toughest decisions of my coaching career, but I am confident we are going to be near the top of the SEC/Big 12/and Big East soon."

Wait, what? I had just read a couple days ago that an extension was nearly done. Not that I am worried about this job wooing Gregg. I just am surprised by this.

Yeah, that one is definitely a headscratcher.

Apparently, there was too much resistance from boosters.

The disappointment would lie with those who have the means to sweeten the WSU pot but for whatever reason choose not to do so. And we don't have to match the P5 dollar for dollar but rather just keep pace. I think we're going to find out how committed the heavy hitters are to maintaining big time basketball in the Air Capital.
I would say to people who think this way to put your money where your mouth is. Charge more for seats. Another $100 per season ticket is $1mm. Who wouldn't pay another $100 a year per seat to keep what we have?
