The Calipari to the NBA rumors don't hurt Kentucky. The Roy is going to retire rumors don't seem to hurt UNC. Last year with the most credible threat to Marshall leaving (a real live offer he had to turn down with bama's AD in town) he pulled his best recruiting class yet.
Calipari is in league of his own when it comes to recruiting.

Roy has definitely been hurt by negative recruiting: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebaske...cruiting-trail

I do think HCGM has been hurt by questions of his longevity in Wichita. The 2015 class had long been signed when last year's rumor mill was going. I have not seen them play, but I would argue that CJ Keyser, Daishon Smith, Darrlyn Willis and Austin Reaves are not his "Best" recruiting class at Wichita State.

The argument is that Roy hasn't been hurt by rumors that he will retire, and your cited article doesn't refute that. It just says that concerns about post-season eligibility have harmed his recruiting. The article mentions nothing about retirement.

Yet you make definitive comments like...

"It hurts recruiting. You can take that to the bank. No butthurt here, just objective reality."

        • One thing to think about: If Memphis didn't have the money or commitment from boosters to fund the $10.6M buyout for Pastner, where is the money going to come from to pay a top shelf coach?

Marshall's current contract at WSU totals $22M, with over $800K in additional incentives possible each year, and over $600K available for assistants. The total potential value of Marshall's seven year contract is worth around $32M. Including the $4.4M they will owe Pastner, Memphis will need to present Marshall with an offer nearing their entire annual athletics budget, just to match where Marshall currently sits.

The 2 may or may not be joined together.

Why, just why, was Fogler part of that search committee? Would we EVER ask Turgeon to help us locate a replacement? Did the Vandy people say, "Yes, he left us for South Carolina, but that's SUCH a better job we don't blame him! In fact, let's ask him to help us find a replacement!"

Schaus left us for Ohio, but I would call him and beg to see his short-list the next time we have to make a hire.

Memphis is a far better job than MTSU or Vandy...we paid Cal almost 2.5 million, and paid Pastner almost 3 million...money isn't the issue.

don't be mad at Memphis for wanting to better itself...you should flattered that we covet your HC...means you're doing something right.

                      • The AAC won't be much better than the MVC if UConn and Cincy bolt....

There's a risk for GM to consider.

That's cool. So Marshall's gonna have to take a pay cut?

                          Teams in 2016 NCAA tourney:
                          Middle Tennessee: Yes
                          Vanderbilt: Yes
                          Memphis: No

the 10.6 million IS NOT a buyout...it's guaranteed money for the next 4 years from Pastner's contract if we FIRE him...the issue was paying that AND paying 2-3-4 million for the next guy.

now that part A is no longer an issue...neither is part B

no, those contracts were worked out in like 2008 for Cal, and 2013 for Pastner...prices go up, we understand that.
