  • Gotta agree with the sentiments on IU fans who have visited us here. Very intelligent and classy posters who know basketball. This is a fun thread to read. On that subject, Kentucky fans surprisingly showed a lot of respect last year, I'll give them props too. But no one has aspired to the level as our George Mason friends from years ago--I wanted to buy every one of them a beer even after we lost to them.

They just proved my statement on the WYO board.

"UNI can toot their own panther horn, but SDSU, Boise State and CSU would've finished above almost every team in that conference. The MWC is not a world-beater conf, but outside of the P5, it is the next best."

I think our turbulence after RMK gave us a better sense of perspective and maybe some insight into humility. I, personally, thought Coach Davis was a mistake but gave him a shot, then Sampscum came along - a good coach but shady - most of us really questioned that hire. Then Crean - he's done a good job restoring the program's integrity but a lot of us are not sure he's our long term guy. It's been a rough 12 years of IU basketball for some of us that remember being in a national contender at least once in every class (I include 92 in that cause we were robbed ;) ) and can appreciate what it takes to sustain a good program at any level.

        • Indy Star article:

Much like IU, Wichita State relies heavily on guards

          • I can't find a single national analyst that picks Indiana to win this game. That bothers me for some reason.

I'm with you. Nervous as hell about this game, but then that will probably be the case with the rest of our games this season, however many there may be.

that '92 iu team (damon bailey, calbert cheaney et al) should have won it all!

                  • We should definitely enjoy these classy fans from our upcoming opponent while we can. Because if we win, I'm not sure the NMSU fans will be as classy.

(No offense, NMSU fans. I'm obviously joking.)

                    • The Shocks must win against Indianna, this is the year to play KU.
This is Selfs worst team & his best big man, Alexander is out & Ellis has been injured. They are ripe for the picking.

Yup. My kids walk away when someone out here asks me about it; they've heard the story too many times.

On the flip side, if they do lose, we will have to hear these excuses an awful lot.

The teams that have tried to play the same tempo have lost. If WSU is smart they slow it down and try to keep it in the 50s and 60s. If it gets to 70 it will not be good for them.
                              Oh please.

WSU vs Memphis had more possessions (71) than IU had in any game the entire Big 10 season. I'm pretty sure WSU has seen a fast tempo before.

Oh by the way, WSU did just fine in that fast paced game vs a top 100 opponent... they won by 15.

Gotta agree with that. Our hope lies in us actually playing defense and hitting very outside shots with decent inside play from Holt - not the biggest of hope butsome - we didn't beat most teams with our tempo as much as we did our shooting. We seem to shoot better in our run out cause it allows us more room usually but if we miss that first oppurtunity we have a tendency to stand around for 15 to 20 seconds (with a guard weave to give the appearance of movement) then try to create with 10 seconds left. Our offense can be very predictable within that 30 sec to 10 second shot clock. It's kinda odd.
