I'm just saying that if WSU plays an optimal strategy they probably win this match-up 7 or 8 times out of 10. If they try and run, help off shooters, settle for jumpers on O, etc... it brings it closer to 60/40.

That's a ten percent swing, but games this time of the year are swung on margins less than that.

You guys are great... depending on work I may pop in tom. If not, it's been fun. Best of luck!
Agreed completely there. As much as we IU fans like to rip on Crean's coaching, IU has constantly been very good in the transition game and makes excellent decisions there. The Hoosiers definitely have a better chance to win if the tempo is faster than if the Shockers play at their normal tempo.

WSU can still win playing IU's tempo but they're much less of a favorite if they play that way.

    • Who are these rational, seemingly intelligent guests we have? I mean really, an opposing fan base that is acknowledging both teams strengths and weaknesses and generally making good, sound observation based opinions. 100% Kudos to the IU fans here.

      • IU has a big problem with standing around on offense when other teams slow down the tempo. This usually equates to a lot of dribbling and throwing up a poor 3 at the end of the shot clock. WSU can probably win an up tempo game but they certainly will have a better chance if they slow it down a bit in my opinion. I have not seen Memphis play this year so I am not familiar with their style. Should be a great game to watch.

        • It's pretty cool that we get to see the Shockers play Indiana. And we're favored. Crazy. We've played Louisville, Kentucky, and now Indiana in the last three years. Hopefully we can get over the hump this year.

I agree. The Indiana fans are fantastic. They really came here to talk like basketball fans. I have to give them a high five for that. They are much classier than me for sure :) I just hope our friendly Tree fans don't get too upset because I know how they feel about Indiana.

I agree with this statement. Thank you IU fans. When you play games like this, you either gain or lose a lot of respect for the teams based on how they fans act. In this case, I've become a fan of IU.

Now if you look at the UNI and Wyoming boards ... I have lost any respect I had for Wyoming based on their fans. Its just funny how delusional they are.

Correction. The teams that have tried to play the same tempo with Indiana have lost when Indiana was the home team. The Hoosiers have won 3 games away from home since Jan. 1.

When you aren't playing at home you tend to give up some points:

                Northwestern: 72
                Wisconsin: 92
                Purdue: 83
                Ohio State: 82

Those teams were able to run with Indiana just fine.

What are the got-hot-in-3-days-to-make-the-tournament fans saying about UNI?

I agree. The IU fans have been great. Their bluebood counterparts to the northeast could take a note or two on how to talk basketball without the need of feeling so insecure.

                  ... No really, deuces.

Go to panthernation and wyonation and read up. Its entertaining. The basic jist of it is: UNI is a paper tiger. UNI hasn't played anyone (WYOs schedule is worse than UNI and there is actually a conference mate in the MWC that didn't win a single DI game this year). WYO Talking up the MWC likes its the greatest thing ever even though no one is ranked etc. UNI hasn't played ANYONE with the athletic ability of WYO because their guys have a couple SC Top 10 dunks (apparently they haven't heard of Cotton, like the majority of the country).

                    Its just comical overall.

UNI is a paper tiger, the top 5 or 6 teams in the MWC would have the same record as UNI with UNI's schedule, etc, etc. The UNLV fans from when UNI played them in the tournament were the exact same. It's probably a MWC thing.

Last year it seemed that SDSU fans were the most vocal about how overrated WSU was and that we didn't deserve a 1 seed. I think the MWC has an inferiority complex, they can't accept that they aren't a P5 team. At least the MVC knows they aren't

                        • Well thanks for saving me the trip fellas. Glad we don't have to deal with that delusional garbage here.

I think UNI takes them behind the woodshed by 20 and they'll disappear just as quickly as a Laramie sunset.

                          • That goes both ways Slalom - nice to go to a forum where as a guest you feel welcome and get good information/conversation.

I'm a pretty realistic guy and realize our chance are 15-20% of a win but as a fan that seems pretty good odds ;) - that being said I think most of us IU fans recognize how impressive WSU program has become and wish you continued success (except on Friday of course). It's been fun learning more about Marshall, your team, and your program over the last 3 days - a classy establishment all around.
