I think this is a pretty funny thread. I've known a number of 'horn graduates over the years, most great people. What I've never been able to calculate is why as a group, they seem arrogant and condescending. They pretty much pushed the last Big XII commish around and were responsible for both Mizzou and A&M leaving for the SEC (as well as Nebraska for the Big Ten). They generally never get the coach they're targeting (last time it was Nick Saban in football).
Having said that, I think Barnes is hanging by a thread and will probably be fired if the 'horns don't make the NCAA's.
The biggest reason, in my mind, as to why HCGM would be foolish to consider this position is that UT has to have some of the most meddlesome alumni in college sports.
When I was a kid growing up, I remember the KU alums constantly meddling with the football program, which virtually guaranteed its consistent underachieving. UT alums are like the KU alums I just described X10.
I don't think HCGM wants those headaches. I think he can get a much better job with higher pay and a better tradition than UT.

See I feel all these things you guys are saying negative about UT would be appealing to 3G. UT would be a little bit of a rebuilding job. He could few it as a challenge. To take a good program and make it elite. UT has everything a coach could need to win. Great facilities, the ability to get top 10 talent, and lots and lots of $$$$$. Even though they have all this, they still aren't in the upper tier of college programs. They easily could be with the right coach though.

The only thing I know for sure is Marshall will never say never. He is just too smart to do that and he will always keep all of his options open.
What most Shocker fans can do to influence this situation is exactly what we did this past Saturday. A small group of Shocker fans might be able to influence the monetary part of the equation.
It is also helpful to know that Gregg Marshall publicly named Charles Koch as the person he most admires although it is difficult to know for sure how that dynamic could influence 3G's thinking one way or the other.

Perhaps the BEST case for Wichita St. IF coach decided to take the Texas job IF they fired Barnes.
- Coach Marshall takes the job after we win the National Championship THIS YEAR.
- Fred, Ron decide to play their Senior season at Wichita St. with a new head coach.
- Wichita St. hires Chris Jans at 1.9 Million (incentive/pressure for Jans to keep Marshall's legacy)
- All the Shocker recruits keep their Commitment to play for Wichita St.
- Barely a noticeable drop-off within the Shocker program finishing next season at 31-2.
That way we still have our star players to have another AWESOME season next year with Fred and Ron carrying Chris Jans first year as head coach. The nation finally gets to say..."Good...now these pesky Shockers will go away cause they lost their coach." BUT...to their dismay...the program is still STRONG with another great season next year and Chris Jans is continuing to Play ANGRY.
- Ron, Evan and Fred get to show all the new Freshmen next year how to Play Angry.
- Shament, McDuffie, Taylor and Hamilton buy into it simply because there are 10,500 fans there every night.
- Head coach Chris Jans reels in a couple 4 star recruits next season building on what Coach Marshall signed the previous year.
- Ron, Fred, Evan graduate after another GREAT year....and we're good to go off to the races under Chris Jans for another 5-10 year run messing up everybody's bracket for the next decade or so.
At least that's AZ Shocker's dream last night after reading this HORRIBLE thread before going to bed!!!!!!!!!!! ;)FINAL FOURS:

Now I agree with just about every post in this thread; wrong time to talk about HCGM leaving, wrong school, wrong reasons. It is always interesting and fun to read this kind of stuff because it means we have a coach that we give a damn about. Oh no, Harry Miller is leaving!! Doubt that was ever worthy of a thread other than adding "When is" before the "Harry". Besides, we have a good 4 days to wait; what else are we going to talk about? Okay, probably a lot, but you know what I mean.
The funniest part of this thread has been all the posts from the folks wanting it to die, or to never have happened, or proclaiming it to be the dumbest thread ever. They are doing a great job of keeping it on the first page and adding to the level of dumbness.
Barnes will probably be happy to be fired; the guy looks worn out all the time. It is no fun for him anymore. Texas alums are worse than KU's; they are like a dingle berry you can't get rid of. At least with the little hawk rocks you get in your life, you can wipe them away fairly easily.
