      I like this idea.

Isn't there something in the agreement for the free ticketsnthat they will get them for 20 years? I do believe that time is coming closer to an end. Maybe 7 more years of student fees going to the AD in return for free tickets?

Oh yeah! Forgot about that. So with that, the best route then seems to be to only allow one game at a time, and possibly only at the door as @TheYeti: said.

We are forgetting that the original idea was to be able to sell the unused tickets to the public. Several years ago, during good years prior to the F4, the general public was clamoring for MVC and other big game tickets that students didn't want and weren't picking up.

I don't know if it's been mentioned (again) but keep in mind the students were given these tickets because of the increased student fees to pay for the Koch renovation over a decade ago. I don't know how long that agreement was to be in place though, and for the record I fully support a different method for distributing tickets to the students to maximize the home court advantage, one way or the other.

Charging some nominal amount for the tickets (assuming it's permissible to do so under the existing agreement, or if not, then once it is) and selling them a game at a time and not too far in advance would also increase the incentive for students to make sure the tickets are used -- at least if they don't go, they can get their money back by selling them to someone who will.

I would think a $25 deposit would do well for each ticket. If your ticket gets used, you get your money back.

                  Good idea, but very cumbersome.

They scan each ticket with a scanner, this is the part I'm not sure about, but do they also swipe a student ID with the ticket? If they do, and if they don't and can do that, I don't see how there couldn't be a check and balance between the pick up and the using of the ticket. Then it's a double checked system that would allow you to see who picked up the ticket, who used the ticket, and who picked up and didn't use the ticket. If you pick up a ticket and that ticket is not used, you get a strike on your account. If you do it again, you can't pick up tickets for at least the next 5 home games, you do it a third time you're banned from ever getting a free student ticket. If you want to get another ticket after your 3rd strike you pay face value.
This or the idea of first come first serve at the door. Either one is fine with me.

I remember when I was a student I was sitting and waiting for the game to start and a friend of mine handed me 3 extra unused tickets (collected from other friends who didn't use them). At that point I had a responsibility to make sure those tickets were used. I left my seat, exited the arena and found a father and his two sons standing outside in the cold. I asked if they were looking for tickets and they said "yes, how much?". I then asked if they were Creighton fans, and they said "no, we are Shocker fans" (we were playing CU and the game was sold out). I told them the tickets were free and they were ecstatic to have them. I gave them the tickets and they ended up about 5 rows behind me.

This sounds cheese, but it brought me serious joy seeing them cheering and enjoying the game, and knowing that I had helped make that happen. Turns out they got to see one of the best endings to a Shocker game I and many others have ever experienced. I am sure those kids are teens or young adults now, but I bet they remember that game well. Moral of the story is make sure your tickets get used. I know with how they do it now you can't give away your student tickets to non-students, but the least you can do is not pick 'em up if you can't use 'em. You could be robbing someone of an amazing experience.

                        Lol. Perfectly said.

You know I have heard that as well (and was actually a student during the RR), but I went to the WSU tuition and fees page a few days ago and I could find nothing to indicate its existence.

This is not to say that it is not buried in those fees somewhere, but they sure aren't disclosing any connection with the AD in the explanation.

As a former student I like the idea of three strikes and you can't get anymore student tickets. I think the best solution is to not require students to show their IDs when entering the arena. There were many times last year due to family, school and other circumstances that I would have loved to have given my student tickets to someone but couldn't due to the showing of IDs rule.

I was a student when it was approved by SGA. I swear it was for 20 yrs but didn't have a set way to distribute tickets. Can students still buy the guest tickets? If so, I wonder how many they are getting?

I really like @TheYeti: idea of just coming in with your card on game day. Open up the student entrance a half hour sooner and make em wait in line prior to that if they really want in.
