Here is something I don't understand. All tickets are numbered sequentially, and also have a bar code. Each student gets one ticket per game. They scan each ticket with a scanner, this is the part I'm not sure about, but do they also swipe a student ID with the ticket? If they do, and if they don't and can do that, I don't see how there couldn't be a check and balance between the pick up and the using of the ticket. Then it's a double checked system that would allow you to see who picked up the ticket, who used the ticket, and who picked up and didn't use the ticket. If you pick up a ticket and that ticket is not used, you get a strike on your account. If you do it again, you can't pick up tickets for at least the next 5 home games, you do it a third time you're banned from ever getting a free student ticket. If you want to get another ticket after your 3rd strike you pay face value.

They should just do the pick up for student tickets the day of the game or day before. Sure there will be complaints but at least it'll fill those seats

If there's a hole tomorrow night, then it's quite obvious we have a big problem that would need attention immediately.
You would think the athletic department would realize this on their own, and not need help from the general public. You would think.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

I don't know how it works now, but they use to release tickets in groups (2-4 games at a time). So it's quite possible, people from out of town, picked up their tickets, knowing they would miss one, but didn't want to miss out on the other games in that group.
EDIT: I didn't take time to read and see if this point was already discussed. If so, my apologies. The Assman

No that's not exactly how it is done. They allow anyone who is in line to pick up tickets to pick up a certain number of games on that day. Let's say that they are giving away tickets to two games. They ask the student which games they want to pick up and only give away the tickets that the student asks for.

Tomorrow should be interesting.
The way I see it, the students are being begged for participation and thus trusted with this system, which really screws over the Joe Public that just wants a GA ticket.
They have one chance to rectify it tomorrow night and if not, HCGM will be a change agent sooner than later. It has burned my ass from the beginning that so many students take this team and era for granted.
I predict the Athletic Department will be forced to get it right. Student tickets will either be reduced back to a number about half of what they are now or will be handed out on a game by game basis 72 hours to 48 hours before a game at which point they will go on sale to the general public. The problem is what to do this year. Lots of games over Christmas break.
The money loss will eventually drive this thing, I believe back to more public GA seating being offered or even more SASO seating. At a minimum I'm figuring about seven grand a game x 15 games or whatever is being left on the table.Last edited by shoxlax; December 9, 2014, 12:20 AM.

Yes, people are going to pick up tickets to all of them, but I believe most people have the intention of wanting to make all the games.
There is no perfect solution: Some people can't make it at the time the tickets are released and others would be able to make it early enough on gameday, if they just let a certain number of students in an hour before tipoff.
The good thing is, people are talking about it. So maybe they can find an improved strategy. The Assman

I think @SHURTZtheHERTZ: identified the key problem. Tickets should be given out one game at a time. This however puts more burden on the ticket office too. Perhaps tickets should be $3 each? 4 games of 4 seats would have a pain point then that would prevent the "why notters" from just taking a handful of tickets.
Of course in our department's infinite wisdom, if they did decide to charge in order to add a minimum pain point, they would talk themselves into allowing the students to just charge it to their federal loan so that they can pay for it later -- removing the pain completely and just adding to the students' mountain of debt in the future.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!
